Hello there. I am being baptised on Sunday and have to get a testimony in order. I have put a few "How to..." bits in it because my unsaved family will be present (Prayers would be appreiciated)
Any feedback would be extremely welcome. I am very nervous about this, and don't wanna screw it up. If I've said anything wrongly, please inform me.
BETA BJ's TESTIMONY I grew up in a family of unbelievers, and knew next to nothing about God until this year.
The events that have taken place over the course of this year, the good times and the bad, have brought me ever closer to God, and through two of my long time friends I found Christ.
Ive known Melissa for over six years, and in that time, she has always been cheery and always seemed to be smiling.
Ive known Steven for about the same amount of time, but our friendship sky-rocketed this year, and he displayed a reliability I had never seen before.
I saw the way these two willingly shared the burdens of others, how they were never unnecessarily anxious or worried about the future, and I knew something was missing in my life, and I had a strong feeling I knew what it was.
Around March, I began asking questions about God. The ever reliable Steve spent many nights at my place until 3am answering my inquiries about the Lord, and Melissa stood in his place when he was unwell. During this time, I learnt there truly is a God, I learned that I was a sinner, and also that there is no difference between a minor sinner and a major sinner
Romans 3:23 - "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God."
I also understood that because of that sin, I was separated from God
On March 24th I received a gift from Melissa and Steven; the first Bible I had ever laid hands on. I started to read the Gospel of John.
The clincher was the following day, March 25th, Good Friday, at the youth event at Scamps house, where I not only heard, but finally understood what Christs sacrifice on the cross meant for all men.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16
I discovered that He died in our place as our substitute. He shed His blood for us to wash away our sins.
Armed with this new-found knowledge, I set out to change the direction of my life.
Romans 10:9, 13, "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved......For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."
And so then in early April, I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour from sin. I was saved by the grace of God. Since then my life has gone from strength to strength; I have a job, a car, and a new circle of friends, and I constantly thank the Lord for these blessings that I have received from Him.
