  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hey all! New to the board, glad to be here. I publish a newlywed marriage vlog on YouTube. Check it out!

Interesting take on the subject, Mygisfy. I like the haircut; I like the video message and presentation. I might be a little iffy on the verbal marketing strategy you employ, but I have to admit that in watching it, I feel confirmed in my more recent inner convictions that I need to do a little bit "more dying" to myself in order to be the Christian I need to be, and to be the husband that the Lord truly meant for me to be, as well.

Thanks for the interesting "video reminder," young man. (I have to say young man, now, because I woke up, looked in the mirror and found that something strange has happened to my appearance. Age.) ;)

Blessings,
2PhiloVoid

Thanks for the encouragement! The reason I used the wording I used was because of a song I was listening to which used similar verbiage, which really provoked me to think about the subject more.

Also, no harm no foul about the young man thing. I know I look like a teenager haha.

Hello and welcome to CF, and may I say, nicely done!

I am happy to see that you seem to "get it" and that's awesome! I hope others will hear you and follow your example.

You might be interested to know that you really struck a chord. Suicide may be more the thought of the times, which is very sad. But the Orthodox Church (which is very ancient!) has long regarded marriage in terms of martyrdom - dying to self for the sake of Christ. (There are sermons from about 1,600 years ago on this very subject.)

Interestingly enough, it is not only the husband that we regard as being called to do so, though you quoted those Scriptures for husbands. But likewise, wives also ... we both put the needs of the other first, sacrifice our own wills, and help one another in our Christian faith, especially, and as partners in life.

Keep up the good work!

I believe the Scriptures would call it "mutual submission." (Eph 5:21).

Unfortunately, I think Christians deal with a lot of "cross fatigue," where the meaning of what the cross actually was gets drowned out by the inundation of cross necklaces and various representations other representations.

The cross was a torture device. Wearing one around your neck is akin to having an electric chair or a lethal injection needle dangling from your neck.

Mutual submission indeed. :)

And yes, the cross has become too much a fashion symbol to suit me - especially when people who don't even believe will wear a huge one just to have it seen.

But that doesn't change what it truly is, thankfully. :) Though it may become obscured for many.

I completely agree with this.
