  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Danny the Lion

Once upon a time there was a lion named Danny. Danny could not roar. All of the other lions made fun of Danny and never played with him. Danny was very lonely and wanted a friend very badly.

Next week a new lion came to the zoo from the circus. Her name was Annie and she knew lots of circus tricks. Danny watched her do her tricks and said she was very good, but he was wearing a frown. Danny thought, “Annie will never be my friend. She knows so many circus tricks and she wouldn’t want to be my friend anyway because I can’t roar.” Danny went away from where Annie was doing her tricks and cried. He had no friends.

Then Annie went over to Danny and asked him why he was crying. Danny told Annie everything. Annie said to him, “Danny, when I first went to the circus I could barely run, but after I practiced for a while I ran really well. I bet if you practiced you could roar really well. Just try it.”

Danny looked around; all of the other lions had come over to Danny and Annie. Danny suddenly felt very shy and small. He whispered in Annie’s ear, “I can’t do it.” Annie just told him soothingly, “You can do it. Just try, you can do it.”

Danny opened his mouth and all that came out was a little squeak. All of the lions walked away from him laughing and jeering. That is, all except for Annie. Annie told Danny, “It’s ok, it takes practice. When I first tried to run I kept tripping over my own paws. Don’t worry, you’ll be able to roar before you know it.”

Over the next couple of weeks Annie taught Danny how to roar. Three weeks after Danny had first tried to roar Annie told the other lions that she wanted them to listen to Danny roar. The lions followed Annie to where Danny was standing saying to each other, “Danny won’t roar. He can’t roar. He just squeaks.” When they got to Danny Annie went up next to him and said, “I present the amazing, roaring lion, Danny!” The other lions just mumbled and snickered and a few faint claps were heard. Then, Danny opened his mouth and...

HE ROARED! All of the other lions just stared at him. Annie smiled from ear to ear and started clapping. Soon all of the lions were clapping. This time the lions walked away saying to each other, “Danny was amazing! That was the best roar I’ve ever heard!”

The next day all of the lions were talking about Danny. All of the lions wanted to talk to Danny and be friends with the “best lion in the zoo”.

After that Danny had lots of friends, but Annie was always his best friend.

Al Ergic & Patches

Once upon a time in a town called Petport there lived a lot of people called Petpeople. There was a rule in Petport that everyone that lived there had to have a pet. They could pick a dog, a cat, a bird, or even some fish!

Well one Petperson named Al Ergic couldn’t get a pet because he sneezed whenever there was a pet around. The king of Petport got mad at Al. So he told Al that he had to get a pet or else he couldn’t live in Petport anymore.

Al was very sad when the king said that, because he loved Petport. So he went shopping for a pet. He hoped that there would be a pet he could be with and he wouldn’t sneeze.

He tried dogs. AAAACHOO! He tried cats. AAAACHOO! He tried birds. AAAACHOO! He tried fish. AAAACHOO! He tried horses. AAAACHOO! Finally Al got so tired of sneezing he went home to rest. He decided he would go to bed early that night, so he went to bed.

In the morning when Al woke up he thought of a pet he could try that day. He hurried up and got out of bed and ran to the pet store. He went to the hamster cage and held a hamster close to his face. He snuggled it close to his nose, and…

HE DIDN’T SNEEZE! Al quickly bought the little hamster. His hamster was white with little brown spots on its back. He decided he was going to name his hamster Patches.

Al loved Patches. When Al went shopping Patches went with him. When Al went to the movies Patches went with him. When Al went to his best friend’s house Patches went also. Patches went EVERYWHERE that Al went.

Al was very happy. He loved his pet and his pet loved him back. He was also happy because now that he had Patches he could still live in Petport!

A couple days later the king came to Al’s house to see if he got a pet so he could stay in Petport. When the king came he was very happy because he liked Al and now Al could live in Petport and play with him sometimes. The king also liked Patches. He kept playing with him and snuggling him next to his face. Patches liked the king too, but he liked Al better.

Al decided that he would always be Patches’ friend. He decided that he was always going to tell Patches all of his secrets and do everything with him. Al did do those things. He was Patches’ friend forever.

Next week Al took Patches camping and some really funny things happened, but that’s another story…
