In other science news, some child scientists have successfully performed abiogenesis. Using frozen water and two lumps of carbon, they created a jolly, happy soul which can laugh and play. At a press conference, the youngsters said their achievement would have been utterly impossible if it weren't for some "magic" in an old silk hat they found.

Further examination of their claim reveal that in addition to the frozen water and two lumps of carbon, a vegetable, specifically a carrot, was also involved. This introduction of foreign DNA calls into question the validity of their claim. (I have a nose for this sort of inconsistency.)

My dear sir, I am this moment consulting the relevant scientific literature (45 rpm record). There is no mention whatsoever of a carrot. I know you'd love to be able to slander these youngsters and discredit their work, but Carrot Theory is a malicious atheist lie with no basis in fact.

Dear Sir or Madam, it is well understood by those who have studied these matters that 45 rpm records evolved from 78 rpm records and before that from wax cylinders. Whether or not these in turn can trace their ancestry back to cuneiform tablets is incidental, though inferential analysis leaves little doubt.

More to the point, your 45 rpm record is played with a diamond stylus. Diamonds are measured in carats. Carat is a mutation of carrot. Case closed.

(And a very Merry Christmas.)

They have found an animal called a Rangifer that emits electromagnetic energy from its anterior nares in the 750nm range.

Creation or evolution?

Evolution. Genetic mutation due to Mrs. Reindeer taking Thalidomide late in the pregnancy. This caused this unfortunate malformation but ultimately it came in quite handy.

Ironically it led to said mutation being allowed to play in all the rangifer games which, of course, led to ample mating opportunities. Which is why we have red-nosed reindeer today.

In a universe where our empirical senses are limited, should creation make sense?

Let's say I told you that I stole your car, drove it like a maniac, colliding at high speed with several other cars before driving it off a pier leaving it to sink in the water. You then look outside and see your car sitting in your driveway in exactly the condition you left it in the previous day.

Who do you believe, me or reality?

Let's say that I had sworn testimony from several witnesses who claimed that had done what I claimed, all of them thoroughly trustworthy people. Would you still think that your car was sitting in your driveway, completely undamaged?

Or would you discount reality and instead believe something that a) has no supporting evidence and b) has a lot of evidence against it?

I mean, what do you always tell us? Reality can take a hike? Funnily enough, I somehow suspect that you WON'T tell reality to take a hike in this case! You'll be perfectly happy to accept reality when it tells you that your car is fine!
