Abiogenesis is like a combination lock that has a thousand numbers, and you have about ten seconds to figure out the combination.
 At least try to get something close to correct. About a billion years times 365.25 days time 24 hours times 60 minutes times 60 seconds is around 34 quadrillion.

You would also need the thread being split into multiple copies of the thread with every post.
So right now on Post 8 we could already have at least 128 threads.

And by post 50 we could have over 562,949,953,421,312 threads

And most of those threads would have died off, with only those best fitted for survival (whatever that might mean in this context) remaining.

Of course, some wouldhave to go off, and join other forums, so that speciation could occur.

Wouldn't that be extinction?

Wouldn't that be extinction?

If a particular mutation gives individuals who have it a competitive advantage over others of their species, then, all other things being equal, they will stand a better chance of surviving long enough to pass on their genes than others without that mutation. Again, all other things being equal, the numbers those with an advantage will gradually increase, whilst the numbers of those with a competitive disadvantage will gradually decrease, and eventually die out.

That is evolution within a species. It does not involve the extinction of a species.
