  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey Miss BarbaraJean! I stole your idea, lol. This is a thread for me to post some of the quilts I've made. They're all really simple, but it's my favorite hobby and something I really enjoy. Some are just tops and have yet to actually be quilted...ah well. I'll get to them someday. ;)

This is the first quilt I ever made. It's a baby I Spy quilt...I ordered my squares off of e-Bay because I hadn't built my own stash yet. I gave this one as a gift to my niece, Aliyah...she was an infant at the time. The backing is flannel, so it's soft and snuggly.

This is a green floral 9 Patch design. I made it from a pre-packaged kit that I bought at WalMart. LOL, my husband actually helped me put this one together. he sewed some of the squares for me. It's not quilted in this picture, but I did finish this one. My hubby sleeps cuddled up in it ever night. He calls it his blankie. ;)

This is my UT (University of Tennessee) quilt that I made for my parents last Christmas. It's in progress in this picture, but it's finished and much loved by my parents. It's also backed in flannel, so it's soft and snuggly and perfect for climbing under and watching the big game. ;) I bought this kit at Wal-Mart also, but I've had some high money offers to make some more of these. I might some day. ;)

This is a panel that I bought at WalMart that I quilted for my hubby to use in his missions lessons with our church kids. I actually made him two of them. My hubby is missions president and gives children's lessons once a month. This map is perfect because it's big, we can lay it on the floor, they can crawl all over it...and then we can throw it in the washer and it's good as new, lol. I've considered making these as gifts for my daughter's teachers to keep in their classrooms (because all the teachers that attend my church seemed really impressed with this one).

Another one of my first attempts. It's an Attic Windows design that I bought in a kit from WalMart (lots of my first attempts were cheap prepackaged kits, lol). This one actually turned out really nice once it was quilted. Not the greatest picture (and ignore the wrinkles, lol). It became a gift for my niece, Kaitlyn.

One of my favorite projects ever. This is a quilt that we did with the kids as a missions project. We sent it as a gift to the missionaries that our church was sponsoring. Each child colored their own square with fabric crayons...anything they wanted to draw related to missionaries and missions work or just God or Jesus in general. They did a fabulous job (even though we ended up with a few squares of ABCs or squiggly lines from the smaller kids, lol). They LOVED this project, and we've since done another similar project as a gift for our pastor...that time by having the kids draw their favorite Bible stories. I think this is a project that we'll continue to do at least once or twice a year with the kids, either as a fundraiser (silent auction item) or as a gift for those that our children's program wants to honor.

In fact, I'm going to be working on another quilt like this in the next few weeks for a silent auction we're having to raise money to assist some of the less priviledged kids on their church camp expenses. We want any child who wants to go to camp to be able to go.

Wow how lovely your quilts are. I love you use of color. I am not so bold of a quilter I tend to play it a little to safe. Do you eve donate quilts to charity?
Most of my quilts end up as gifts for children, lol, so that's the reason for all the colors (plus, it's just so much fun to work with interesting colors and patterns).

As for charity, I have donated several to my church so far, and there are some quilt charities around my local area that I'm interested in (children's hospital ministries and such). I've also looked in to quilts for soldiers and project linus.

I have been wanting to make quilts and donate them to project linus, but no one at my church was really interested. I am going to do it on my own when I get some time. I bought some St. Jude material. I feel like I am helping a cause until I actually donate something. Keep up the good work.

This particular quilt we gave as a baby shower gift to one of my best high school friends. It was such pretty toile...part of me hated to give it up. ;)

They fit like the hooded towels, sort of...kind of a "no hands" quilt for kids to wrap up in. And they're SOOO simple.
