Well someone that was formerly SDA sent me this message:

The reason why your fiance's mother is giving you trouble is because SDAs believe that all other churches/denominations are wrong and part of Babylon. It relates alot to Sabbath keeping. They believe that if you are not keeping the Sabbath in the end you will be lost.

The were right about the position of the SDA. Their false prophet, Ellen G. White said Sunday Sabbath is the mark of the beast.

As much as you try to explain to them that Sunday is not the Sabbath but rather Jesus is the Sabbath and we enter into his rest when we cease our works of the law. As much as you explain that, generally they do not grasp it being in the hands of legalism, and they will persist in seeing your worshipping on Sunday as an act of observing the Sabbath day on Sunday.

It does not help one bit that that is exactly what the Roman Catholic church claims to be doing and that they claim to have changed the Sabbath based on their authority through Peter.

I dated a SDA for quite awhile. A lot of very nice peopel and many who have made it out of the cult and really are Christian, but there are a lot of them who are pushing as conservatives for a strong return to Ellen G. White.

Officially they still recognize her as a prophet though there are many who in practice do not.

It is not an easy thing to do, but I would suggest that you need to know if Devon considers her a prophet or a false prophet. His mother appears to still be caught in the false religion. I do hope he is not.

He didn't have really any sort of foundation in that church. Children made fun of him so he didn't go to Sabbath school. His mom let him sleep through church too. I don't think Devon even knows what kind of wackos there are there as the one church he went to is more "mainstream" (it's the church that mothered the Kettering Medical Center here). His mother on the other hand is a different story. She grew up very SDA, and went to an SDA school all the way until she graduated from college. I don't think his dad cares at all but I really don't know anything about how he stands. They used to go to church every week but stopped (this was before I met Devon).

I told Devon that while it isn't my place to talk to his mother, he really needs to do so because I can see it being a major issue in the future (and especially if we have kids).
