  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was raised Catholic but told at 12 or 13 that I was old enough to decide if I go to Church on Sundays or not. So I decided to sleep in instead on Sunday. When I hit my lat tenns I became interested in spirituality but was attracted to New Age Philopsophy and also Shamanism. I studied this for a few years and became adept in lucid dreaming and had visions of the future that came true. But felt empty.

I studies other faiths and ways. I was going to join a Bhakti Yoga society. But was torn because at this point I only wanted to serve God and was not sure if I was following the one true God. I prayed and waited in silence in tears and a voice came to me "Follow Me" and here I am a follower of Christ again :)

Well hallelujah, brother! I was a practicing buddhist/mysticist before Jesus saved me. I turned away from God when i was very young. And yet, our Lord was with us, was He not? He does not forsake us, and truly, there just isn't any substance in anything without our Lord God, is there? I practiced meditation and all sorts of non-sense, but what are these things, eh, that God is not in?
Praying a blessing on you, brother.
Hoping to hear more. :)

You know, it's amazing. We are built to worship, and when we are astray from God, we still yearn and desire for that connection with something. We try to fill the hole in our soul with everything else, but only the Lord satisfies and fills. Praise our Holy God, Lord of hosts! :-D

I think those experiences only help us to become a better Christian. I mean now can be ecumenical and dialogue with other faith like Hans Kung. I also practiced Buddhism and Hinduism which I did not mention. And I still use mindfulness but with it being a way of opening myself up to God and listening for His voice and in the world at large.

Wonderful testimony :)

I have never heard of anyone being in shamanism so I know nothing about it. I am glad you have found and follow Christ.

It may be descrbed as a creation centered spirituality. My Christian path still uses that approach.

True.

So how long has it been that you've been back?

Since the early 90s.
