I don't --- I wouldn't trust the public education system to teach my children anything about the Bible.
Why? I mean, if it's all there, all obviously laid out, how could the public education system mess that up?
Now that I understand how you have one foot in a religious beliefs for a 6100 year creation and your other foot standing in the science that describes a 14 Billion year old universe, how does that same process work for a Biblical Flood? Or does it?Oh, I'm sure they'd find ways. Like denying a global flood.........
AV, not everyone uses the King James...
And, as a psych student, you are deeply fascinating. I dont think I have ever seen any case of cognitive dissonance that is so deep rooted. (cognitive dissonace fascinates me) Is there any part of you that twiches when you say things like "The universe is 4.5 billion years old, but it was created 6100 years ago"? How did you come to belive such oxymorons as "maturity without history"? Because I honestly cannot get my head around the concept. Its like rejecting something deeply fundamental in us, and embracing something that shouldnt, and maybe doesnt, make any sense at all.

You argue Omphalos as the means that narrows and even closes the gap between two opposing dichotomies where science describes an old universe and the Bible describes a young universe. So Im wondering why your not able to do the same with the Biblical Flood? Or are you.
But they don't have to be reconciled. The Bible is wrong. See how easy that was?It doesn't take a Rhodes Scholar, Domenico to ascertain this. Can statements 1 and 2 be reconciled? Some see these two statements and just assume they're contradictory; but a close examination shows they do not violate the Law of Non-contradiction. In other words, they can be reconciled.
- According to the Bible, the earth has been in existence only 6100 years and, in fact, predates the sun, moon, and stars.
- According to science, the earth is 4.57 billion years old.
Now, Domenico, you take it from here and let's see how you would do so.
No matter... there simply wasn't a global flood.I'll answer the Flood question, but first, let me say this. I do not argue Omphalos. I have been accused of being Omphalos, and it upsets me very much.
The Bible does not describe a young universe.
Science is not able to find any evidence what so ever for a Biblical Flood. As far as science is concerned, it never happened. But the Bible said it happened. Based on the Bible you also say a Biblical flood happened.
And all of that to cling to a particular, overly literal, reading of Scripture. I think a degree of pride and stubbornness comes into play at some point.
But they don't have to be reconciled. The Bible is wrong. See how easy that was?
Is this Biblical?Yes, a global flood occurred. Science cannot find evidence for it because God cleaned it up.
No matter... there simply wasn't a global flood.
Is this Biblical?
Why would God even need to clean up after causing a Global Flood? Is what Biblical? That God cleaned it up?
No --- it is not documented as such; but look at it this way. Who is the only one who had the ability to do so?
Noah? Satan? Demons? Angels?
You think God just sat there and watched them clean the water up against His will?
The only way to reconcole those statments is to say that yes, the universe has existed for 4.5 billion years, and thus it must have existed for 6100 years, plus 4.49 billion odd years as well. While it doesnt take a Rhodes Scholar to realise that the bible and science say different things, Im fairly sure no Rhodes Scholar would ever claim that they are actually the same.It doesn't take a Rhodes Scholar, Domenico to ascertain this. Can statements 1 and 2 be reconciled? Some see these two statements and just assume they're contradictory; but a close examination shows they do not violate the Law of Non-contradiction. In other words, they can be reconciled.

This is a good example of a Bible Literalist interpreting scripture. They do it all the time, while simultaneously claiming it is wrong to interpret scripture. Why would God even need to clean up after causing a Global Flood?
I'm not wanting to be rude, really I'm not...but your suggestion that God cleaned up after the flood that He caused to happen and with out that clean up being documented in the Bible, just seems to me to be completely out there in the land of make believe.
