• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi Everyone,
I have am a Christian and have OCD. I do not remember it very much from when I was younger. All I remember is sometimes things would pop into my head saying do not do that or blank (something very bad to me or one of my family members) will happen. Now that I am an adult I think it has gotten worse. I constantly more often than not question every decision I make because if I make the wrong one blank will happen. I feel like it has gotten even worse after pregnancy. I do not know what to do about it.

I'm in the same boat with you sis. My OCD, which I didn't even know I had (though it tormented me at times), ramped way up when I had my son. I now deal with it on a daily basis and HATE it. But we're going to get through this sister; we have to. Just remember that it's the disease telling your mind lies and that you don't even have to consider what it's saying about you or the decisions you make. BTW, are you taking any medication for it? I am, and believe me it helps. Also, are you getting plenty of omega fatty acids and B vitamins? They're good for this stuff too. Love and prayers for you my sister!

Okay, I do not feel as crazy now...After I had my daughter I started having these thoughts were if I did not do something right then something terrible was going to happen to her...Maybe because having her changed my whole perspective and the worse thing that could happen to me is seeing something bad happen to her? I have not gotten any help for it because all my family and friends that I tell about it think I am crazy and just say to change the way I think. It is exhausting. Sometimes I think I am a bad mom because of it.

Do NOT listen to people like that. They don't know what it's like. You need help to change your thoughts. Call on God and then call on a Christian psychiatrist, then call on a Christian counselor who's got experience with OCD. God gave those people the talents they have just so they can help people like us. Don't throw away that incredible blessing!

It helps to get stuff like this out in the open sometimes. It also helps to know that there are others who suffer from the same thing that you do.

I don't know much about pregnancy, but I would imagine that the hormonal changes would have the potential to worsen OCD symptoms. I have also read of other syptoms like yours. A mother has her first child, and she soon develops severe OCD symptoms related to the way she takes care of and views her child.

OCD takes the things that we fear the most and makes us feel like they're entirely possible. We feel like danger is imminent.

The goal for beating this is to pay as little attention to your obsessive-compulsive fears as possible. The more you dwell on them, the more they'll grow.

If you get the proper treatment, and work really hard in therapy and/or counseling, in time you won't feel so crazy anymore. BTW, really look into the natural therapies available for OCD treatment. Discuss these with your Christian psychiatrist as a possible supplement to your medicine regimen. I can tell you this stuff works.

Hey sister, let me tell you you need to try taking supplements of magnesium and zinc. That is really helping me think more like myself. A lot of women are deficient in magnesium post-partum, which is one of the reasons they get post-partum depression. You can pick this stuff up at your local Wal-Mart or whatever.

Good point... I just wish it were that easy! I cant tell you how many times I have thought to myself "I will NOT listen to these thoughts anymore". I feel crazy!

Yeah, it isn't easy. Some people just can't do it without the help of a therapist or medication.

I'm no doctor, so I don't have any kind of official advice to give you, but you could try getting a book on OCD to learn more about how it works. If educating yourself and using herbal supplements and the like doesn't work, then it would probably be a good idea to seek the help of a therapist or psychiatrist to discuss therapy and/or medication options.

This site has actually educated me quite a bit! It has also helped to some degree. It is like when I visit here and see all the other people effected by this disease and how they are overcoming it I get inspired to overcome it and then it wears off and I think I cant overcome it and give into my thoughts that something bad might happen.

Well it has been 10 months...do you think I might still be deficient in it?

Yes you probably still are deficient. I'm nearly 9 months post-partum myself and I know I was deficient until I started to take supplements. The difference in me is amazing. Also, it isn't just post-partum women who are deficient in magnesium---OCD sufferers are too. You may have a double whammy here. These supplements are super cheap at Wal-Mart, so they're worth a try.
