Continuing to love my new Glock G29.

I shot in the GSSF match and am hooked. Can't wait until the next one in two weeks!

I ordered a Lone Wolf conversion barrel for the Glock that turned my 10mm into a .40 S&W. I was hoping to be able to shoot in the Unlimited division with the conversion barrel with low-power 40 loads and increase my score. The 10mm is very difficult to get back on target quickly at 25yds. I get 1.5 seconds to recover from recoil, get back on target, and get off another shot.

Well, the new barrel arrived and looked great; no flaws that I could see and it functioned 100% with my reloads and factory ammo.

The problem is that it is not accurate. Not at all. My stock Glock will do 1" at 25yds. With the new barrel, best I could get was 4.5" with one of my reloads. 5" with factory ammo, and 7.5" with another one of my loads.

I can't use it in a match. So, I contacted Lone Wolf and they had me mail it back to them for inspection, on my dime. Not thrilled with them so far...

When I took the barrel out, I noticed that it had an unusual wear pattern on the side of the chamber. Looks like it is rubbing on the slide when firing, which would explain the awful accuracy.

I have another barrel from KKM on it's way but this one is an extended length 10mm. It will be here next week. I might just try it out for the match.

I also started noticing that my slide finish is pretty thin and easily scratched; it's a common complaint with the Gen 4 Glocks. I decided to just do my own redneck camo job on the slide and call it good. This is my woods carry gun and is going to get beat up. I've done a bunch of these jobs on a few of my other guns and for friends and they hold up fairly well and look nice...

Very nice!
I've also heard about the finish on the Gen 4's being less resilient, but other than a few marks
from repetitive holster draws on my G17, I haven't noticed any problems with it.

Cool paint job!
Those wear marks on your new barrel, are there corresponding wear marks in your slide? Are they only on the one side? Were you able to measure each barrel for comparison? I'm wondering if there may be not so much issues with tolerance of size on the new barrel, but maybe a tolerance of position of a feature(s) issue between the new barrel and your pistol and/or slide, possibly creating an asymmetrical force during cycling?

My guess, when you get the new barrel, things will level off.

Question; Having never shot either the .40 or the 10mm how do each compare for recoil, and how do they compare to a .45 (which I have shot)?.

There seems to be a movement away from the .40 in our various Police agencies (back to 9mm), and in a year or two, these may be hitting the surplus market up here. One of the reasons cited was recoil issues.

I can't tell where in the slide it is rubbing since I only fired 50 rounds with the barrel and the slide finish wasn't affected. I'll hopefully hear back from LW this week. My new KKM barrel should be here today.

For recoil, the 40 isn't as bad as some make it out to be. It is definitely more than 9mm and more snappier rather than heavier than 45, but nothing unmanageable, IMHO. My carry weapon is a little XDS in .40 S&W and I did add a Pachmyr rubber grip sleeve to it to make it a bit more comfortable.

10mm is definitely the .40 S&W on steroids. But it doesn't hurt to shoot; just a lot more muzzle rise and harder to get back on target quickly.

Worst handgun I have for recoil is my Ruger Blackhawk in .45 Colt. With my heavy bear loads, I wear a shooting glove when evaluating recipes that are pushing the limits. It hurts!

.40 sounds a bit like the Tokarev for recoil and jump. I had an old model blackhawk with a 6" barrel in .357; that was not comfortable to shoot. They look "cool" but with the barrel so far above your hand, and it's taper, I did not enjoy shooting it, so it went down the road.

Yeah... I love the "feel" of a single-action; until I pull the trigger...

My Ruger is the Bisley model, which has a different grip designed supposedly to decrease recoil. It still hurts, though!
