• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Honestly as a smoker of over 20 yrs I have to say I doubt you can convince her to quit. It is something she has to make up her mind that she wants to do.

However what you can do is pray. Pray that God lay it on her heart to quit. Prayer is a mighty powerful tool.

Dear WD ,

I tried to convince my Mother for 10 years to quite, 10 years i begged and pleaded with her ... 8-9 of those years she ignored me, and continued to unrelentlessly smoke herself stupid. :sigh: She was a heavy smoker 6-7 packs a week for 39 years. She always told me she "wanted to" but could not summon the will power to remove the addiction from her life.

Eventually the last 18 months of those ten years, i prayed and interceeded for my unsaved Mother, that she would be released and replenished - she was severly underweight and unhealthy. I knew by her own will, she was not strong enough, and that she would likely fail if she tried, soooo i prayed Jesus would give her the supernatural strength and perseverance she would require. Last March, she quit and went onto the patches, and she has never ever looked back. :) Praise Jesus!

I encourage you strongly, work out your motives first - ask God to make your love for her want her to quit - if your motive is selfish, you can't desire blessings and abundant life for her. What i found really hard, was wanting her to stop for her, but eventually Jesus showed me her life was at stake, and she needed to be freed from the stronghold. I encourage you babe, to get on your knees and pray God releases her, pray for Him to change her mind to WANT to stop, Pray He gives her the strength and takes away the temptation - God sends the rain (and blessings) on the righteous the same as He does the sinners, He can deliver her from this!

Set aside your sin, repent, pray and seek His face - and you will see revival in her life!
