Hi, my name is Doug. This is a brief snapshot of my Christian life so far. If not for the grace of God during this transformation, I wouldn't probably be here. Praises to God!
Gods Work in My Life
Old life: starting 1971
New life: starting end of year 1991
1991- I cried out to God to get me out of the mess I was in with a lady 12 years older than me
1991- God temporarily placed me in the hands of the Apostolic Church
1992- I started experiencing unusual moods caused by newly diagnosis of bipolar, triggered by the stress of my old life.
1992- I was dealing with certain demons who had entered while I was with this lady.
1992- I had to go to a mental ward
1992- The hospital gave me anti-depressant medicine
1992- What I learned up to this point is that God was in fact real, and thru the next several years I would live more peaceably, but still knew I had to deal with God more, for my belief was small, my faith almost non-existent, and my fear (anxiety) of Him was great.
1993-I tried to forget religion, I played professionally in a bluegrass band called Chris Jones and the Night Drivers until 1999. I got to travel to Europe four times, and Canada several times.
1998/99- Prior to 1999 my symptoms of fear and religious delusions came strong to me again, so I quit the band and went to the hospital again.
1999- This time I battled demonic forces with no defense except by the grace of God I survived. I did show some violence, probably out of fear and frustration.
1999- The doctors put me on the correct medicine I needed at the time
1999- Over the course of a month or so, I regained my sanity I had when I was with the band
1999 thru 2005- I was still scared of God
1999- I gained 60lb
2002- I let religion go for a while, in the mean time I joined another band
2005- At some point I tried going back to the Apostolic Church.
They would not baptize me because of some strongholds and habits I could not overcome
2005- The Apostolic Church offered to pay most of the cost of counseling at the Antioch Group
2005- I lost my job because of my mental disorder and got on disability
2006- Some Christian neighbors started developing a relationship with me and the music
2006- These neighbors asked if I wanted to attend Community Bible Fellowship in El Paso, IL.
2006- I started attending and after several months was baptized
2007- We started a band called Illinois Rail
2007- We play with a worship team
2007- I still struggle with the strongholds and habits
2009- I started going to a Bible study group
2010- I pray more
2010- I want more belief and experience of Gods unconditional love for me
2009- I met a Christian girl
2010- I want Gods perfect love to penetrate me, to cast out all fear
2010- I look forward to the day when/if God will restore my health
Thanks for reading this, and God give you peace and grace.
Doug
