My advice: Get a rewards credit card, pay off the balance each month, and make the rewards your vacation fund.

I don't like that people treat having fun or going on vacation as a basic human right. How would you have lived 100 years ago? People used to work seven days a week every day just to put a little bit of food in their stomachs. I mean, to actually take the Sabbath seriously back then (NO WORK!) actually was an exercise of faith. After all, if you thought how the world thought, you might actually starve!

Want a vacation? Budget for one. Can't afford it? Go without a vacation.

Uhm what theme parks are near you? I might know tricks and tips to get discounts.

I just got married so I don't know if my advice will be much good… but we did date for about 5 years and this entire journey has been limited by money. He's an introvert and bit more content to stay home but I am an extrovert and also have to stay active and get lots of stimulation. It has caused fights before….. but not lately. Because I mastered the art of making long lists of cheap/free dates and I try to see things through his eyes, not mine.

I'll try to show you how I learned to process planning things around him-

a glass of wine at a classy bar where they have dancing looks like a fun night through my eyes… but through his eyes, he has PTSD (a little bit) so a noisy, crowded place isn't fun, it's stressful. And Drinking isn't really that good for him. (or me either really but lol)…but if we were going to have a little wine to relax, Spending $8 on one glass of wine when he can buy a bottle for $6 and enjoy it in his own home where he can choose the music and noise levels will only frustrate him. If he's going to go and and spend $, what kind of situation will make him feel more comfortable? Something where there is one thing to focus on and the public noise around him is minimal. The movie theater. He can deal with those crowds because he is captivated by the action on the big screen. We both win… I get to go out, he doesn't get too stressed. We both get engaged in something.

You did mention factoring kids into your vacation so I'm sure it gets a little more complicated. But hopefully trying to see stuff the way he sees it will help you?
