• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I'm 27 and have been smoking since i've been 17. I started because most of my friends use to smoke, and my girlfriend of 6 years smokes like a chimney. We don't live together or see each other during the week because of our jobs but every weekend we are together. I pretty much gave up smoking and dont smoke Mon-Thursday. However, when I am with her she smokes and the smell of smoke urges me to smoke. It's an addiction that very hard to beat, especially when alchol is mixed in. I have tried very hard before not to give in a smoke b/c she is smoking. She will not give it up at all.

What should I do? Should I leave her because of this. I don't have the willpower to not smoke when she is around.

I don't think you should leave her just because she smokes. Look up some serious health risks affiliated with smoking on google. Some of them include heart problems, throat cancer, lung cancer, breathing problems, and ulcers. I guess you should show her pictures of people who have been victims of these horrible conditions. I used to smoke myself last year but I quit after reading about information online. I was freaked out even more after seeing pictures. Give it a shot. May God be with you guys. Hope for the best!:)
