Just spent a few years working on building a Christian game as a "hobby" (since I believe the Lord laid it on my heart). It was going to start out as a "Revelation/everyone got raptured" game but ended up just with an allegorical approach to the first 7 churches mentioned in Chapters 1 - 3. The longest spell was with a progam called 3DGameStudio. The results looked a lot like other games with the medieval feel and look of the monsters and levels. Then I think an illustrator I admire spoke to me and told me I couldn't "do dark". It just wasn't in me! I could do silly, strange and weird but not "dark" or the horror genre. (The Lord works in mysterious ways)...
So the game ended up with "game message angels" for each church and allegorical monsters for the challenge that Christ had for each church. I made the weapons to all look like hood ornaments off of cars from the fifties and gave it a surf guitar sound track (I didn't really want to do "Jesus Quake").
But if you need tools to try your hand at it; Reality Factory is FREE; there are also very inexpensive modelers (which I prefer) like Milkshape that are under 30 dollars.
I began the game plan with a bible study by the way...
