• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Can science PROVE a negative?

If you say NO, I would like to submit this as proof that an object isn't running off of AC:

If you still say NO, I submit you are just saying it on principle.

Discuss please.

Maybe they really mean to say that if science can't prove A to be true, that doesn't necessarily mean that A is false.
But that deals with proving something true, which is another claim of theirs that's different from this one.

I'm talking about their claim that you can't prove a negative.

You are using terms in a very unscientific way when asking a philosophical question.

Science is a method of describing physical reality and as such can falsify statements about physical reality that are untrue (like for example a worldwide flood).

Such as: There has never been a global flood?
The goal of this thread is to give some dignity to Egyptian (worldly) science by legitimizing the challenge: "Prove God doesn't exist."

As long as something isn't a logical impossibility, it can't be considered absolutely 100% proven.

For all you know, flashlights never existed and you just imagined them. And you're imagining reading this post right now.
I have no idea what you just said.

So is that a YES or a NO to my OP?

The problem with disproving God´s existence is that believers define "God" into unfalsifiability.
So your flashlight thing is completely irrelevant for that.

Well, that's one flashlight. Now prove it for every flashlight in existence.

Then don't try to disprove God's existence.

Instead, prove He doesn't exist: then there would be nothing left to falsify.

Better yet, answer the OP.

Just one will do ... thanks. :)

Once you've proven the one in the OP, you've broken the mold.

That negative is not demonstrated, let alone proven, by science.

It is also patently obvious you don't understand what is meant by proving a negative. It's a philosophical problem, not a scientific one.

Of course you can't prove that God doesn't exist.

You also can't prove that God does exist.

We Christians believe in God because we have faith, not scientific proof.

I as a Christian as well as many others have faith that the events which took place and are reported about surrounding the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ are true. That during that time some people made the observation that they could see, talk to and touch Jesus after His public execution. Of course people are free to reject such claims because how can you do that kind observation now, since He hasn't made a public appearance since then.
