  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I did my first fast this weekend, but it didn't go as I had planned. I wanted to do a juice and water fast for 3 days, but ended up breaking that today, the second day, because I was nauseous and light headed. I know that's expected, but I had to run errands and I was afraid I'd pass out, as I have in the past. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I could do next time? I am taking B12 suppliments, but is there something else I could take as well? Or juices that are better than others that could help?

The strain on your body will not last for 10 minutes.Usually the tension comes around meal times because your body was expecting something. If you just wait for 10 minutes it will be over until the next meal time.

Fasting is just like the fight of faith. You stand your ground and you win.You just need determination but also pray that God helps you because he's our helper and he's our strength.

perhaps try a banana and water instead of your juice. or take a small piece of dry bread if you really do pass out. Don't give up if you have a blip though. just carry on from where you are. It all counts, and it'll help build up your fasting stamina!!!! (sorry silly question, but if this is your first fast, how come you've passed out before?!!)

and don't forget to keep talking to God through it and tell Him how you feel, and what you need. great bonding experience! I almost always find myself saying " Father God, you're going to have to do this for me, cos I'm finished unless you take this sickness/diziness/headache/faintness away! And as long as you're being honest with Him and yourself, and not being manipulative,or dumb, He'll come through for you. He is faithful xx

I am going to try again. It was just a bit disappointing because I thought I could do it. I went to the doctors a few times and they just said it was stress, although I don't think that was the case. They later found out I have low B12, so I'm not sure if that could be a reason. I'll try a banana or bread next time, thank you :)

Drink lots more water.... The body can easily handle 3 days without food, however the body generally tries to detox itself when it doesnt have to continually digest food. If you haven't fasted before you will find a lot of unusual things taking place as the body begins its detox processes. I would avoid vitamins as well during a 3 day fast. The hardest day of a fast is thr 1st, then the 2nd etc. Get past a week and hunger, headaches etc disappear. And always remember to prayer and read the Word..

24 hour fast. I have done 3 fasts in my life all 24 hours. I find 24 hours is about the limit I can do. I suggest doing 24 hour fasts unless God leads you to do a 3 day fast.

Fasting is always going to be a challenge. The bible does mention it's a form of humbling oneself and sometimes describes it as afflicting yourselves so naturally it's going to be painful or a challenge.Whatever hunger pains you might be having will not usually last for 5 minutes so if you hang in there it all comes to pass.

To make it easy though just start by doing a fast say miss the morning meals then only eat from lunch.Do that for the whole week, your body will get conditioned. The following week try missing breakfast and lunch altogether then only eat your supper for one day.The following week you will be able to do a 24hr fast. It's just like running a marathon, start by jogging lightly for 15 minutes, your body adapts to such pressures and soon you will be able to do a 14day and night fast without even taking anything.(I hear someone claiming you will die after 3 days, well that's a lie from the devil)
