  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I was nervous about putting a church flyer on my office door until the lesbian-gay-bisexual society put one of their flyers on the bulletin board next to the office. If the higher-ups ask me to take mine down I'll scream about them infringing on my lifestyle and remind them that tolerance applies to everyone.

I haven't put one in my office at work yet, but I do have a Catholic art calendar hanging(which is blessed).
Its really against company policy to have religious items in the work area, so I am hesitant to push it any further ;)
I'm lucky. The CID Sgt. is a Christian and he doesn't care if we hang religious items in our office. No suspects, victims or witnesses have yet to complain. We'll see what happens if they do. But, we don't have a departmental policy prohibiting such items. We just make sure everyone regardless of race, religion, creed, sex, etc. gets equal protection and treatment under the law.....

exactly, which is why I have hesitated ;)
And trust me, I know of an instance with someone where they took him in the office, closed the door, was given the accusations against him, and he was fired on the spot.

It happens. And the law is sided against the accusee.

Get this -- the accuser can state whatever they want to state, then three months after the fact, walk into HR, and tell them that it was all a lie, and it doesn't matter one bit. The law applies to how someone was feeling or how they perceived it at the time the action occurred.

I certaintly prefer that sort of system to the "religious sterilization" which is generally in force.

I have a San Damiano Crucifix tacked to the cork board on my desk. It's well enough away from "prying eyes" that walk through the lab, but it's visible to me everytime I sit down to work on my lab books.
Yeah, that's how you do it...

I have a small plastic statue of Christ in my cubicle top compartment, along with pictures of my daughter which I leave open all day.

I work for a company that's pretty old school, so the chances of me stepping on toes is slight...

I'm gonna put a couple desk statues of Mary and Christ on my desk too, but I plan to put them in a spot where people can't immediately see them unless they look to the left of my monitor...

It's sad that you have to do these things in today's world. Very sad.

I am going to put a holy water font in my cube :D
Hey whatever works man...I know some people at my work that need a little spraying...

Actually, the water gun with holy water in it sounds like a good idea to me. Get me one of those Nerf Blasters, ya know with the multiple cartridges that you can like spray an entire office with 100 feet.

Yeah, that would rule.

On a more serious note, I know a guy that has anoiting oil in his desk. Every day before he starts work, he anoints his desk with the sign of the cross. I want to start doing that.

If you buy anointing oil at the local Catholic store, do you then need to take it to your priest to have him bless it or whatever he does with it?

Lovely, classy crucifix, BA. That's the style I like so much.
Unfortunately, my wife is so not cool with the idea of hanging a crucifix in our house. :(
My wife was pretty apprehensive about it too. But I straight up told her we were going to have icons of Christ in this house.

"Woman!! Christ will be a part of this household whether you like it or not. You better check yourself straight up quick-like..."

"Christ will be up in here...you betta get used to it..."

Heh...just kiddin'.... ;)

yep. and I know some oils can only be blessed by the bishop, but that may depend on what it is to be used for.

I have a silver bracelet which has a cross dangling from it and the actual band that goes around my wrist is a Jesus fish that says Jesus inside and then a solid bar with John3:16 written in it. I absolutly LOVE when people say "Oh what a nice bracelet, let me see? what is it?"

I also have what are called scripture mints, they are little fish shaped mints and I offer them to people often.

I have several bumper stickers and the fishee to proclaim my faith.

I also always have a bible on my dashboard or even sticking out of my purse.

I usually just wait until someone asks me about anyone of these things and then I can tell them.

The good part is that my husband owns our business so I don't have to worry about getting fired! :D

dude, one day at work I pulled my rosary out of my pocket and a guy at work went nuts. It was so strange.. he had a small panick attack, called me a freak and then ran up and down the cubes asking people if they carried rosaries in their pockets. I pointed out to him that if I had a rabbits foot in my pocket it wouldn't have bothered him, and then he started to calm down.

If I had holy water that day.... :D
