To those of you around here who remember me, I am informing you that I got stop-lossed last May, so instead of getting out of the National Guard this year as I was supposed to, I am going be sent on another year long tour in Iraq before I can be discharged. I will be on active duty starting tomorrow. I will keep in touch on this forum as much as time permits...

Dear Soldier,

When my duaghter joined the army in the fall of 2003, we, her parents were quite shocked. We had been on the sidelines at times and more-or-less somewhat distant from what was going on. But when our daughter joined the army, it was like we had a whole new family. We watched the 'news' more often, especially about what happend in Iraq. Every 'death' was part of us, and we began feeling the pain that other parents were feeling.

We started looking for other parents in our community with children in the service. We found that sharing the pain and sorrow of others draws them to us and closer to God too!

Hopefully we can share some help and hope to make your experience a little lighter while continuing in the call of duty.

What do you think about killing other people in the name of your country? (supposing that war is declared; "legal")

Is it possible for a "Christian" from one country to kill another "Christian" from an "enemy" country (and please God)?

And by the way, when did the U.S. Congress last declare war?

I wouldn't kill anybody unless it was to protect myself or my fellow soldiers.

The last war declared by Congress was World War II. Why?

Soldier, I think Your Neighbor is planning to inform you that Congress didn't declare war to kick off military action in Iraq and so it is illegitimate. Not Christian. Not Godly. And so forth. I'm sure his comments will be great fun for those of us who get to stay at home.

I'm sorry you got stop-lossed, bro. I'm sorry you're active again even though you were due to get out. And I hope that even in your current circumstances, you'll see ways and means to live out your hope and encourage the other guys and girls in your unit. Look after yourself as best you can.

Well the good news is you wont have to shovel snow for a year. I just got back from being there for a year and I can say things are getting alot better. I hope that you have some great friends to work with because besides our faith, our friends can really help us through the long and hard stretches.

Your Neighbor, God bless you! I can assure you that you will never know his experiences, just like I will never know your own. This post is probably not the best place for your politics however. Being on the action side of history is much different than that of the spectator benches.

Moriah's son has just become licensed to drive armored vehicles. He bes in the Army at Ft. Lewis in WA state and will be deployed to either Iraq or Afghanistan (final orders not yet in) in about a year's time -- August of 2009.
