My computer mouse is actin' up....

it like "freezes" and then i hear this "bling" sound intermittently....

anybody ever heard of a problem like this?

ok, the mouse isn't freezing, the cursor is.....it works normally, then freezes and then that spinning thing comes on the screen and then it bing bings, and then the cursor works again....it's as if it's in a "delayed" mode....

anybody know what's wrong?

It sounds like maybe you clicked ahead of having dialog boxes pop up on the screen. The "bing" sound may be telling you that there's a modal dialog box that needs to be closed before you can proceed. If I'm right you'll either have to find those dialog boxes and close them, or you may need to reboot - that should clear the problem in any case.

Either your computer is continually slow and like the person above said is to do with dialogue boxes needing attention or maybe it's a program spiking in CPU/memory usage that slows it down temporarily.

One thing I'd suggest, assuming it's a laser mouse and not a ball mouse, when it freezes, turn the mouse upside down and see if the laser is still on. The ping sound might be that the device was disconnected and has now reconnected. If that's the case, time to get a new mouse.

i've got a new one now.....it was $8.99 @ Walmart

I hope it was a laser mouse. In the ones with a ball, metal rollers in plastic bearings tend to wear out in next to no time

It's more a case of whether the specific computer's motherboard has a socket for them, which for that mouse, probably isn't the case with most modern motherboards.

Very few motherboards come with serial ports these days (which is very unfortunate). There are lots of PS/2 (little round green plug) and USB ones around though.
