If the Grand Canyon was formed by the Colorado River, wouldn't you expect it to be widest at the top than at the bottom?
Yes I would.

And it is.

Right -- now take that thinking and apply it on a larger, not smaller, scale.
Only try that with a giant cake, instead of paper, and see if any "cracks" show up.

Take a giant cake and tear it into five big pieces, without creating any fault lines or wrinkles or anything marring the surface of the five pieces.

Good luck.

Well, assuming the Earth's surface has the consistency of cake, wouldn't the faultlines and wrinkles appear at the tears?

Then how would it be indistinguishable from it being formed by being pulled apart in an instant?

Did God pull only at that exact spot? I thought you were going with a "he reached down with his big, strong hands and pulled all the continents apart" sort of thing.

The fact of the matter is: neither one of us was there.

Peleg would know ... we wouldn't.

He didn't pull the continents apart.

He pulled Eden (Pangaea) apart.

Last I checked, North America is still pretty much one continent.

But when we tear up a cake, we know what it looks like -- are you abandoning your metaphor so quickly?

Actually, according to you, it's 1/7th of a continent. (1/6 if you buy into "Eurasia")

So if God did this, why is there only one Grand Canyon? And why is it the "Grand" one? If you're anything even remotely close to right, we should see far "grander" canyons all over the planet, at all the stress points where God allegedly pulled Eden (Pangaea) apart.

What???

Eden (Pangaea) was one landmass at one time.

Then God pulled it apart into five large continents.

I take it you don't like God's landscaping?

Because God don't make junk?

Really?

Who's the landscaper here? the God of the universe (JEHOVAH), or the goddess of science (MOTHER NATURE)?

There are several canyons larger than The Grand Canyon in America. One of them actually has Grand Canyon as part of its name!

If the Grand Canyon was formed when God pulled Eden (Pangaea) apart in Peleg's time, how would it be indistinguishable in form (wider at the top, narrower at the bottom) from what it looks like today?

If you wanna invoke magic then everything is possible and therefore it has no explanatory power.

Miracles is magic by another name, the two terms are interchangable by any reasonable definition.
And we can count on unbelievers interchanging them, can't we? ;)
