It was the a predominately Irish Catholic parish that ran two Masses at a time. One in the lower church and one in the upper. Both would be packed on Sundays.

This happened in 1984. Crazy that they tried to burn your church. Sad.

It looks similar to the Catholic church I used to attend when I lived in downtown area, near Seattle. Beautiful buildings really. That is really terrible to see a structure like that damaged.

Was anyone finally caught?

Yes.
Was anyone finally caught?

On the night of Jan. 24, 1984, a massive fire broke out at St. Ambrose church in Dorchester. The fire was deemed to be arson, but no one was ever convicted of the crime. The case remains unsolved 35 years later.

When the fire broke out at St. Ambrose on that fateful night, the Boston Fire Department’s Arson Squad was on another call less than 100 yards away from the church. Someone had allegedly poured gasoline into an exhaust vent at a dentist’s office at 1443 Dorchester Ave., and the squad was there investigating it as a possible arson attempt.

Meanwhile, just across the street, flames were quietly spreading inside St. Ambrose church

Your quote said the case remains unsolved 35 years later, implying that nobody was ever caught.
I was seeking a specific name of the person caught. I guess I'm in "Unsolved Mysteries" mode where I look for the "update."
