I am in a great battle with a terrible sexual sin. I have been a Christian for 4 years and this sin keeps comng back into my life. I can feel it coming for days then it explodes in to my life. There can be months when everything seems fine then this sin takes over my life for a few days or so. I know I need to overcome this. I pray about and have cried buckets of tears over it. Sometimes I feel that I doing something wrong. There are times when I feel like giving up and I know that is what satan wants. Is there someone out there who had a similar problem and has overcome it?

Your description of your problem is very vague, but you're certainly not the only one struggling with sexual sin here. Without knowing exactly what your specific problem is, I can only point you to settingcaptivesfree.com. There is a free program there that you can go through to help you win this battle, with God's help.

Also, you may want to re-post this in the Men's Corner. There are many threads dealing with these kinds of issues over there, and also a support thread that may be of some help.

thirsty, the bottom line is that your victory is already assured in Christ Jesus. All you have to do is claim it and stand on it. You can overcome whatever it is you are facing, with His help.

God bless, brother.

I think this may be an issue where youre cutting away at the FRUIT of sin, and not the ROOT of the sin.

You need to seek real-life wise councel with somebody you can be held accountable to. See your pastor. Discuss with him/her your previous sexual sin, and sexual sin that you may know your parents were into. Ask God to find out the CAUSE of the sin, so that youre not just trying to deal with the SYMPTONS of the sin.

Once God reveals the CAUSE of the sin, then pray about that... the symptons will cease after that.

God will be faithful, just trust in him.

God Bless, metal.

Dear Brother Thirsty,

As your name implies, you are thirsting for the Spirit of God to get hold of you and take you into the kingdom of his Son. I am certain God will honor your heart's thirst.

No servant of God is exempt from fights against the dark. If anyone has not fought such a war, he has not reached the depth of servanthood for the Lord.

My Dear Brother Thirsty,
I urge you to consider your fight as honor. God considered you worthy and sent you to the battle. Fight a good fight for the Lord who died for you. There is no sin that is too great for Jesus. Call on his name when the fighting is about to begin. Do not let your soul be soiled in the desire of your flesh.

Consider this fight as death or life battle. It is truly such a battle. In order to keep your flesh desires checked, consider fasting. Rememer our apostle Paul's faith statement:

I punish my body and enslave it. (1 Corinthians 9:27)

The greatest apostle of Jesus had to fight against his flesh. Fasting is to punish our bodily desires, and enslave them under the authority of Jesus. Therefore, I recommend you to fast.

I know a young sister in her teens who fought a battle against the dark on her knees. She testified that she regarded it as her life or death battle. And she found peace in the Lord. Yes, professional counselors can help. But they cannot kneel for you. You must take on the fight yourself. Do not pass the buck to professionals. I cannot overemphasize this to you. It is your fight agaisnt the dark in Christ.

You must read the bible daily. If you are already doing so, do with greater zeal.

Once the battle is over, you will be able to help me when I am in a fight of my own. Be a good fighter and help me. I will help you now on my knees.

Rupert, thank you. As much as that speaks to thirsty, it also speaks to me. I have never fasted, but feel myself becoming more prepared. I *do not* want to run ahead of the Lord. Thank you for the wisdom.

Thirsty, what would I say? A year ago I would have told you that no man has victory over sexual desires - it is the very nature of a man. But now I have a new nature that regards the things of the Lord even above the ways of the sexual man. You have this new nature as well. That is not to say the victory is overcome, but as Scott reminds me, it is *guaranteed* to be beaten. The sinful part of me will lose, and it is losing. I am winning - that is not to say that I can't fall back on who I was and hold onto what is dying, but as Paul wrote in Philippians 3:

Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

The prize is already ours. It is our sin that keeps us from understanding the power of the Lord's grace, but the victory is here and now - all we need to do is claim it. Amen.

I pray that the Lord would keep you in His care, and in His peace.

-Chris

Thanks brothers:

I to have been feeling the same way about fasting but I was not sure if I could do it. Maybe together we can.
I know my battle can only be beaten by Christ. My battle is not only with sexual desires but with illness and the stress at times brings me to a point of weakness. I beleive it is a lack of faith at times. The devil likes to tell us lots of lies to weaken us and when that happens he takes me down. But the Lord said He would never leave or forsake us and He pulls me back to call on Him. I know I need to trust in more and one day I will have victory that has been promised to all who will trust in Him.

Sexual sin is a hard one. Keep battling thirsty!! As long as you keep battling, then you haven't entirely given up...that's how I deal with my smoking habit, today is day 3!!

God Bless You Thirsty and keep fighting, cuz the war is FAR from over,

TriZz
Thanks TriZz:

I quit smoking 17 years ago and remember how much of a battle it was. It was not easy but it is sure worth it. I used those nicotine gums and cut out coffee and other foods that like to go with smoking. Smoked meats, sugar and junk food should be given up. Try eating alot of citrus fruits such as oranges, citric acid helps break down nicotine in your system. Jesus will help you with this. Don't give in. I will keep you in my prayers. ybiC.

Thirsty, I still have struggles. I don't give in, but they do come and tempt me. I just pray... like the scripture says:

James 4:7 MKJV
7 Therefore submit yourselves to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

I remember that, and I know that in all temptations, God always provides a way out.

1 Corinthians 10:13 MKJV
13 No temptation has taken you but what is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but with the temptation also will make a way to escape, so that you may be able to bear it.

Like I said, I STILL deal w/things coming up in my face. It's to be expected, but YOU make that choice, you make the decision of whether you want to give in or not. Remember God's promises when temptation attacks you.. the devil wants you to fail, but GOD will enable you to succeed and overcome!

Revelation 12:10-11 MKJV
10 And I heard a great voice saying in Heaven, Now has come the salvation and power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of His Christ. For the accuser of our brothers is cast down, who accused them before our God day and night.
11 And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb, and because of the word of their testimony. And they did not love their soul until death.

Everytime those thoughts come in my head, I remember God's promises. I pray and pray til they leave. I remember that God is greater than anything I am dealing with and He will not give me over to that sin if I don't want to do it.

I will be praying for you :)
