Sure. Here it is in the New American Standard translation:

Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Being hung up on an out of date translation does put you at a disadvantage.

Go ahead, find me any translation that leaves out your "s" except for the King James. They don't, because the Hebrew for "heavens" in Genesis 1:1 is exactly the same as other places where even the King James says "heavens". And since they are translating from Hebrew, not copying King James, they translate accurately.
