  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I want to join the a military branch simply because I need the discipline and adventure but do I have to be a soldier in the army and marines? Because that's not what I want to do after BASIC training because i'm scared to fight.

Well,

All 4 branches are sworn to protect and serve the Constitution of the United States and this Nations Leaders. So, no matter what you do, you will be assisting in that mission.

Maybe the Coast Guard? That sounds like fun to me.

Every branch has considerable support elements. The old saying was for every man with a rifle on the front lines there are 10 supporting him behind the lines.

There are a lot of jobs you can do that dont involve front line combat. I'm in the Air Force as an intelligence officer, for instance. There are tons of important jobs in the military that are vital to the war effort that dont involve fighting.

And dont feel bad, I'm definatly not cut out to be an infantryman either! Nevertheless, there are ways to serve.

well I can see why many people would go into the "blue" branches because they're much safer and they would barely get their heads blown up in Iraq or Afghanistan or wherever (althought we did have a few casualties in every branch). So I was wondering if I could work behind the front lines (maybe being an engineer or surgeon) in the "green" branches and not have to fight.

Sure, but deployments happen and there are no front lines, much anymore. IEDs, VBIDs and Suicide Bombers can strike a soft skill person as easily as a Combat Arms person.

There are plenty of support opportunities. In the Marines, every man is a rifleman. So, that might not be the best branch for you. The Navy and Air Force give you the greatest opportunity to stay out of harm's way, if that is your goal. But, as stated above, you are sworn to support and defend the US Constitution, and can be called on to fight.

If you are looking for discipline, look at some of the military schools that do not require military service. I'm not talking about Annapolis or West Point, but ones that you don't need a congressional recommendation to get into.
The Citadel (my alma mater)
Virginia Military Institute
Norwich Military

The above are the three leading military schools after the academies. These schools give you 4 years of strict discipline. And, they are also great sources for commissioning as an officer, if you decide the military is for you. Money is not an issue, as The Citadel has plenty of sources to keep you in school. My family had no money to send me, but I got through. The minimum requirements for admission are an 800 on SAT (same as Academies, but without the congressional support) and about a 2.0 HS GPA.

I think what your looking for is something like: water filtration, finance, cook (maybe on this one some are retrained for infantry jobs now), any kind of mechanic thats not recovery, uav opperator, .... the list goes on of generaly fobbit jobs but as with anything in the army nothings ever a sure thing.

btw i wouldn't go engineer because unless you get lucky you will be doing less building and more ied sweeping/combat patrols

Firecube, look brother, the Military is a profession of that no matter were you are you may be caught in a gunfight yourself or assisting one inadvertantly. It is a calling not for all but, if it is for you.. the Lord will provide you the courage to do your job:amen: . We are all going to die the first death it is the second one you should be concerned about:wave:

Don't go. I have to put up with the decision I made everyday to serve the United States Government. Join a local fire department kid. Service the people of America, not it's government. Its' officials are not elected nor responsible to the people. No matter what your school taught you. They are only accountable to money. Many of my comrades have been put into situations where they kill civilians out of paranoia. All branches have "rubber stamped" training programs. Everything that keeps me alive I learned in hunting and paintball - not in military training. I hate this war.

My father didn't really want to go over seas to fight in the Korean war, and he didn't want to get drafted. He joined the Coast Guard Reserves, and enjoyed serving the nation in Connecticut. There's always a chance that you'll be fighting if you join any branch of the military, but some greater than others. No matter which branch you choose, though, there are really good benefits.

I'm joining the Air Force :).
