  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Usually anger, frustration, and disappointment can be attributed to a conflict between expectations and reality. There can be an amplification of an emotional response if one has made a significant investment in an expectation.

The intensity of reaction to the bill in congress that ignores most of the recommendations Musk made would seem understandable. Musk lost a large amount of money, and reputation trying to help the country. That this opportunity would be squandered should not have been a surprise. Consider the 1994 Republican surge. This also was squandered.

If Musk had been a Christian, he might have understood enough about human nature not to have such expectations that the theft that has been allowed would be stopped. If anyone knows him, they might recommend him to this 19 minute video tract about Christianity that would explain why humans do things that are wrong and what the real solution is.

Musk is not naive, he is autistic--singularly focused and driven.

If he wants to tank this bill, all must have to do is threaten to primary some of the Senators whose terms are expiring in 2026. They will do whatever he wants so the big beautiful bill will wind up in the dumpster of History where it belongs.

The past decade shows that no politician or wealthy individual in the US has been able to withstand President Trump's political influence. Consistently, they have all faded against his skills. Elon Musk will likely follow suit, making some noise and losing a lot of money, but becoming insignificant within a few months.

Senate races are different because states can't gerrymander the whole. Except in the deep South, Senators can't be extremists.
But primaries bring out extreme voters.
Josh Hawley in Missouri, for example, might be less likely to cave and vote for the enormous ugly bill because Musk would promise to protect him in the primary.
And because Hawley opposes the bill because it would hurt his constituents who rely on Medicaid, this unusual display of compassion combined with Musk money would get him through a primary even if Trump tried to get even.
