I understand why some people would bash Rap, a stereotypical thing to do, just like me like wise with Country. ^_^

Mike (if don't mind me calling you that Michael) there's plenty of rap alternatives than the ganster rap, gun sling'n, etc. There are few rappers out there, (some mentioned, but I havent heard of) with some true talent at doing with they do best, good lyrics, flow, and nice beats to there music and still in no way portraying evil. Ever heard of Kanye West? Lol, at least some tracks are very well made for christianity, but not all. Tupac? Well, he may have a few tracks that are well to listen to (Until the end of Time) :prayer: . I'm guessing some 'good' rappers have their tracks dedicated toward good things in life or pointing out the negative in life that needs changes. Those are some good tracks I'll listen to.
The only good song Kanye West has is "Jesus Walks"........

Tupac is str8 gangster rap.......he does has a few positive songs though......

I'm not trying to half-way get it out of my life......I'm talking ELIMINATING IT and my bad speech habits I've picked up from it......

I've already stopped saying G.D. cause thats about the worst curse phrase there is.

Almost ALL rap/hip-hop is evil.....I mean they rap about money, cars,
girls (Im putting that nicely), killing, murdering, raping, robbing, stealing, racism, sex, drugs, breaking the law..........

Not all of it but almost all of it.......

I gotta put some space between myself and ALL this negative stuff before it destroys me (like it almost did)

Thank you Lord for giving me the strength to control my life again!!!!!

It's a pretty controversial subject amoungst many Christians. Some Christians believe that it's ok to listen to non-Christian music whilst others think it's not ok.. I don't think it's ok but I know how hard it can be to give up!
What we listen to affects the way we act most of the time. When we are listening to bad music we have bad things filling our minds, when we should be filling our minds with Godly things. We should fill our minds with the things of Christ, not of the world.. We really shouldn't listen to music that includes images of sex, drugs, suicide or includes swearing, because it, as I said, fills our heads with things that aren't of God.. (as the Bible says, fill your minds with Godly things and not of earthly things")
Not all secular songs are 'bad' and some people may not seem affected by listening to them, although we have to be discerning.. Could we be spending that time doing more productive things that glorify the Lord?
As for rap artists? (I dont really like rap too much but I'm racking my brain for good rap artists :p) KJ-52, gospel gangstas and TBONE are good ones..
Continue praying to the Lord for strength to eliminate the music, it's awesome that you want to serve Him in every aspect of your life. Godbless you!

^^Thats so true. It is NOT GOOD AT ALL. You can be influenced in a negative way by it. I've been listening to rap since I was 11 and I'm 23 now, thats 12 years of negative influence.

Yeah its hard to get rid of, but I WILL DO IT with the Lord's help and with some good ol fashioned will power.

you are right...drugs can only kill the body, sin can kill the soul...great observation...few ever manage that...

Okay Michael...if you are just hating this...get totally rid of those Cd's or tapes or whatever...and then get in touch with a real down-to-earth youth pastor from any church that you can find...I know you're 23, but youth pastors know about cool music to appease any taste you've got...before long, music will no longer be a poison, but a blessing for both you and God as you learn a new way to praise God

I used to listen to the really hard-core grunge and rage type music and the occasional rap...Once I got saved I still felt these nagging emotions of rage and depression...finally someone told me that we forget how much music influences us. I tried to not listen to it, but eventually I threw all of my CD's in the trash(with the exception of the 2 Christian Cd's I had at the time). Things have gotten a lot better and God has begun healing all of my wounds. Granted I still deal with depression, but not listening to secular music has made a BIG difference and I've finally made it to a healing period.
