  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi, I've come to delima,I have a laptop, phone,iPod,desktop, and iPad. I have the opportunity to sell my iPad for a good chunk what I paid for it tomorrow. Imthinking about bible college later this year. Is it even justifiable to hold onto it?

I personally have trouble figuring out what I'd even do with an iPad that I wouldn't do with a laptop, but that's just me.

They're good for browsing and checking email (when Safari decides the internet exists) but yeah, the minute you want to actually reply to anything in a reasonable amount of time then you need the laptop out.

If you were to sell it, would you give the money to the church or a local charity? If not, it sounds kinda pointless to get rid of the iPad.

I would be putting the money away for bible college in the fall.

Well my opinion is that you should sell what you don't need - in this case maybe the laptop. It's not like I thought you had to live on abare minimum to be a proper christian, but hey why have stuff lying around if you don't need or want to use them at all? Someone else out there might need those things.

First I would decide what is a toy and what is a tool.

Yes, an iPad can be a toy. You can play games and mess around on it. But it can also be a helpful tool, especially in college. I've seen a lot of people at my college bring their iPad to school instead of a laptop. They have a keyboard and stand and it functions exactly like a laptop but minus the bulk and probably with a better battery life. You can get textbooks on the iPad, take notes, keep track of your schedule, organize yourself etc.

Do you plan on using the iPad to it's full potential to help you in school? The iPod does exactly what the iPad does, is that one necessary? Can you do things on your desktop that you can't do with your laptop?

I got rid of my desktop when I got my laptop. And I still have my ipod's, but I never use them now that I have an iPhone.
