So I actually live in Jersey City. Six dead including one police officer, three bystanders and the shooters. Stand off for four hours, including prolonged periods of heavy fire. The local police, three different sheriff's departments, State Police, Port Authority PD, FBI, ATF and even NYPD were involved.

Not even double digits on the bodycount.
Yawn.Unless It's a fetus or brain dead. only A few care. Liberals are more likely to care about this. But this happens all the time. Eat breakfast or lunch and it's forgotten.

Is this where we say that if the victims were armed it wouldn't have happened?
Nah, that's tomorrow. Today is all thoughts and prayers, and then the story of the hero emerges. You know, the guy who stopped the bad guy or tried to stop the bad guy or protected somebody somehow, some rubbish like that.

Jersey City Shooting: Suspect Published Anti-Semitic Posts, Official Says

The firefight that left six people dead is believed to have been motivated by anti-Semitic and anti-police sentiments, an official said.

A suspect involved in a prolonged firefight in Jersey City, N.J., that left six people dead, including one police officer, had published anti-Semitic and anti-police posts online and investigators believe the attack was motivated by those sentiments, a law enforcement official familiar with the case said on Wednesday.

The Jersey City mayor said surveillance footage indicated that the two shooters had targeted a kosher supermarket where most of the carnage unfolded.

On Twitter Wednesday, Mayor Steven Fulop wrote that an “extensive review” of the city’s closed-circuit cameras made it clear “that these two individuals targeted the kosher grocery location” where they opened fire and sparked a gun battle with police officers.

No, this is where we say how well New Jersey's gun-control laws prevent "gun violence".

New Jersey actually had a good record until now. They did not have any qualifying events of random targeted killings of four people or more in recent years. This would be the first.

The following shows the rate of mass shootings per state. It is based on the Mother Jones database. The population is based on estimates from this Wikipedia article Population of course has not remained steady over the whole period from 1932 to the current time. And the populations are estimates in any case because there has not been a census in some time. But it gives a general guide for comparison.

Since the Mother Jones database has the strange change over from 3 to four people as a definition for mass killings, and it is impossible to find all those with three (or less) for each state, I have used only those over 4.

It should also be noted that the Mother Jones Database does not include domestic events, robberies, gang activity, etc. but randomly targeted public shootings. I also added one killing that seemed to meet the criteria but was left off of the list in Alaska. I tried to search for any missed for each state with a zero.

It should also not be assumed that there are not random target shootings in states with zero. It is just that they have less than four who died. But some may not make this threshold and still injure many. Again, it is hard to find a list that accounts for those.

They now updated the article and title to reflect ties to the Black Hebrew Israelites.

It's creepy that it's easy to link the states with rates over 1.0 (CT and NV) with specific events.

Unfortunately yes. One large event can skew numbers a lot because, despite how terrible these are, they still are comparatively rare.

Seems that Democrat Rashida Tlaib posted a tweet saying "White supremacy kills" and it turns out its black supremacists.

The "right wing" are loving that one, pointing out the hypocrisy.

But do either side actually learn from it? Both the left and right wing jump to conclusions based on their preconceived bias.

Why can nobody on both sides of the political spectrum follow the golden rule of just waiting for all the facts before passing judgement?

As a Jersey City resident myself, I can say that such laws won't do much good when a would-be mass murderer can simply hop over the state line to get their desired level of firepower.

Jersey City supermarket worker gave life to spare wounded customer from anti-Semitic rampage

Jersey City supermarket worker Douglas Miguel Rodriguez returned from vacation just in time to die a hero.

The Ecuadorian immigrant was less than an hour into his first shift back at the JC Kosher Supermarket when a pair of anti-Semitic killers opened fire on the store. Rodriguez took a fatal bullet to spare the life of a wounded young Jewish customer who survived the chilling assault, friends of the victims recounted Thursday.

“When the shooting started, he opened the door so (Deutsch) could run out,” said Chaim Fried, a neighborhood resident who heard the story from Chaim Deutsch at the Jersey City Medical Center on Tuesday night. “And Miguel got shot at the door. He was going to run out but Miguel got shot before he could escape. He was shot, and he fell to the ground.”

Rodriguez, 49, the married father of an 11-year-old daughter, was fatally wounded as the well-armed killers continued to blast away with a shotgun and an assault weapon. He was killed along with Moshe Deutsch and the store owner’s wife Mindy Ferencz, 31.

Like Anglo-Israelism, Black Israelism is pernicious nonsense.

I believe this kind of violence is the only outcome when one believes they are chosen by God and are somehow more special than others. This killing looks similar to that seen in other extremist violence; the perpetrators join these group and then their hate festers only to commit vicious acts of terrorism. Some will attempt to separate the killers from their respective extremist groups/ideology (for instance, saying they were former Black Hebrew Israelites), but the rhetoric of these groups is what pushes these edge cases to go off the deep end. We saw the same thing with the terrorist attack in Virginia that killed Heather Heyer. Much like the death of Heather Heyer, Douglas Miguel Rodriguez demonstrates that hatred targets everyone and we should not blithely turn the other way when the violent rhetoric is directed at a group we're not part of.

'What is Anglo-Israelism?
British Israelism (also called Anglo-Israelism) is a pseudoarchaeological belief that the people of the British Isles are "genetically, racially, and linguistically the direct descendants" of the Ten Lost Tribes of ancient Israel.[1] With roots in the 16th century, British Israelism was inspired by several 19th-century English writings such as John Wilson's 1840 Our Israelitish Origin.[2] Various British Israelite organisations were set up throughout the British Empire as well as in America from the 1870s; a number of these organisations are active independently as of the early 21st century. In America, the idea gave rise to the Christian Identity movement.

Basically, the idea that 'we're the real Jews', usually with a side order of 'The Jews are all fake Jews.'
