Heh, I probably would watch it with Jesus right beside me. I found pretty much nothing in there to be offensive to the point that I would be ashamed to talk about it with my pastor or members of my church. I actually met a few today who were asking me about it before their baptism - I highly suggested it again. I told them that yes, there were swears and implied sex, but nothing that I saw out of the ordinary or offensive.
And yes, I am used to hearing swears and lewd comments all the time at work. And I DO get offended and sometimes have to move into another room or stick my headphones on. It's not something I particularily enjoy and I most certainly understand that they aren't words that should be flung around with reckless abandon. However, their use in this movie is something I barely noticed. I had to pay attention tonight to pick out most of the swears/curses. I honestly did not hear many the first time around and even the second time around most kinda just "glanced off" me. I just don't think condemning a VERY FUNNY movie for a handful of words is something I find useful or constructive. Like I said before, it is your choice. However, I think you are truely missing out on a very fun and humourous movie and a funny look at marriage. The juxtaposition of the two lives adds so much humour into the movie - Angelina Jolie's character idly spinning her chopping knife in her hand as she is preparing dinner, Brad Pitt's character's hidden stashes of weapons and their locations in the house, Jolie's character forgetting to remove her fishnet stockings after the "hooker" hit and then going to a block party and having the hostess notice and stammer at them, etc... Some very funny scenes given very "deadpan" by both actors.
This movie, I noticed tonight, was not bloody or gory at all. There is a scene where Mr. Smith gets a knife in his leg and you notice blood, but the removal of it is off camera. Most of the violence is bloodless or off camera - Mr. Smith carrying out a hit on some mobsters, all you see is his muzzle flash before the camera ducks behinds some boxes while you hear the rest of the shots. I really paid attention this second time through to the humour and violence and sex aspects of it, and I gotta tell ya, it is better than probably 95% of the movies out there. I thouroughly enjoyed it (maybe because the characters reminded me so much of my girlfriend and I...) and I still feel it is a VERY GOOD movie, even with the few swears it has in it.
PS, I'm not upset, I think just a little bit frustrated. I agree a lot of times with reviews by chrisitan communities and stuff about movies, but this time I think it's an unfair condemnation of the movie - this one is very well done, with superb acting, great humour and puns, some satire in there and for the most part, very clean fun. Like I said, to condemn it for a handful of words just is not very fair. I understand your desire to stay away from movies loaded with immorality and sin, but this, in my eyes, really isn't one of those you should keep yourself away from. Just sit in on the first 20 minutes of the movie even, I know my theater out here has a 30 minute money-back garentee if you aren't impressed with what you see. I think the first 20-30 minutes should give you enough to laugh about to sit through the rest and enjoy it.
