  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

ok i dont get it... most of those movies... have maybe a spattering of "christian" values or content (mostly the latter) and some are very anti chrisitan in every way...so why is a "well thought of" web sight like christianity today helping to make the list and then to post it to the web?

and to even add more fuel to the fire...... why does any one feel that a book by stephen king....turned into a movie deserve to be seen by christians?
I may be weird, but I happen to find some of Stephen King's work to be very good. Shawshank, for example, had pharisees and saints, and some very good points and moral lessons. It wasn't evangelical, but that doesn't make it a waste of time or 'bad'. For the record, some of Stephen King's work does not contain goblins and ghosties. ;)

Stephen King's book Desperation is a great book for Christians...a little boy is called by God to fight evil and the little boy argues with God but God convinces him that even though he is young and small, he is the one being called.

Some of those movies I was surprised to see on the list like Last Temptation of Christ and American Beauty. There are others that are very debateable such as Dogma which has a lot of good content but has offensive content as well. There are many movies that are better than the ones listed such as Cabin in the Sky (the best one), Barabbas, Ten Commandments and Bruce Almighty. I also agree very stongly with the person who commented about It's a Wonderful Life being on the list-what an awful choice. Amadeus and many others on the list were also bad choices.

I disagree with this list more than I agree with it.

Kind of obvious to me.

Because it shows the epitome of dysfunction and the effects. Of which, Christianity would cure.

Actually, it has quite a few little lessons in it. The hatred oozed out of the retired marine shows us how there is more than christian love and compassion behind that behavior. Nothing irritates me more than the militant anti gays. Jesus wouldn't focus on one sin, neither should we. Unless, we want to follow our own desires, and not his, of course.
I wholeheartedly echo your sentiments. Some people on here obviously don't see the themes in the film and the questions it raises. They're there on many different layers.

peace,
Andy

Awesome book...it's almost an echo of Stephen King's earlier work...The Shining.

While I would not consider myself among them, there is a school of thought among some conservative Christians that we as a faith are somewhat obligated to keep up with controversial movies that spark debate over faith and how Christians impact society.

The theory is that movies like American Beauty or Life of Brian spark discussion about Jesus and Chrisatianity, plus they are touchstone films which nonchristians often cite as favorites. So they provide inroads to make evangelizing easier and people more willing to discuss the Gospel and their lack of faith.
