  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I watched The Passion of Christ yesterday, and I must say I was not impressed by it at all.

I mean first of all who decided to make the disciples into some kind of ninjas (talking about the first scenes of the movie). I also have a hard time remembering Jesus healing any of the guards ears or the crow at the crucifixion.

These were only a few things I di not like about the movie, but my general feeling about the movie was just that they should just never have desecrated the Bible in that sad way.

John 18:6-12

When he said to them, "I am he," they drew back and fell to the ground. Again he asked them, "Whom do you seek?" And they said, "Jesus of Nazareth." Jesus answered, "I told you that I am he; so, if you seek me, let these men go." This was to fulfil the word which he had spoken, "Of those whom thou gavest me I lost not one." Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it and struck the high priest's slave and cut off his right ear. The slave's name was Malchus. Jesus said to Peter, "Put your sword into its sheath; shall I not drink the cup which the Father has given me?" So the band of soldiers and their captain and the officers of the Jews seized Jesus and bound him.

This looks like it might have been a bit brutal to me. The only thing that is not shown here is that Jesus healed the Roman Soldier. From what we know about Jesus I think that was a pretty good artistic addition.

It wasn't an artistic addition...;)

Luke 22

47 While He was still speaking, behold, a crowd came, and the one called Judas, one of the twelve, was preceding them; and he approached Jesus to kiss Him.
48 But Jesus said to him, "Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?"
49 When those who were around Him saw what was going to happen, they said, "Lord, shall we strike with the sword?"
50 And one of them struck the slave of the high priest and cut off his right ear.
51 But Jesus answered and said, "Stop! No more of this." And He touched his ear and healed him.

Shalom,
Andre

YaY! Thank you, I wasn't aware of that scripture! I know that Mel added artistic stuff to the movie (ofcourse, he is an artist) and so I just figured that was part of it. You learn something new everyday. :)

You're welcome.

Just like you said, there are things that were added, like those little demons tormenting Judas, or that little ugly kid in Satan's arms, or Mary drying up Jesus blood where He was chastised, but those things don't add or take away from the message and the theme presented in the Bible.

I have to be on babelfish's side here, it does'nt say anything about the 'ninja' style the disciple showed in the movie.

And nothing about actually HEALING the guys ear.

Assumption is a poor thing.

I take it you didn't read through the whole thread or you would have seen this. (a couple of posts above yours)
