  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

According to an AP-AOL poll released last week, almost three-fourths (73%) of all Americans said they would prefer to stay home and watch a movie rather than go to a local movie theater. The poll result may explain why domestic movie business revenues through last weekend totaled $3.85 billion, down 6.4 percent from 2004. Factoring in higher ticket prices, the number of people who have gone to theaters is down 9 percent from last year, according to industry estimates. (AP)

Do you prefer watching first-run movies at a movie theater, or waiting until they are available on home video or pay-per-view?

I would rather watch a movie at the theater but I don't have a strong preference for seeing movies at the theater. I rarely see movies at the theater partly because I don't have much money. Another reason I don't go to the movies much is because I can watch a movie countless times on dvd for just a few dollars more than to see it only once at the theater. DVD's make me less interested in going to the theater because all the extra features they include.

Certain films can be watched on DVD without losing too much in the translation. For instance, there is no purpose in seeing a romantic comedy on the big screen.

However, films with a more epic scope lose something if you don't get them that way. I could not imagine not having seen Lord of the Rings in theatres.

I think it depends on the movie. The cost is too great to make it a regular thing. the last movie that i saw in the theater was The Wild Thornberry's. I took the wife and 2 kids to the matinee. We had 1 large popcorn and 2 large drinks. The total was $32.00. A month later, it was available on DVD for 14.99. For that price, I could buy it and throw/give it away if I didn't like it and still be money ahead.

It depends on the movie. Some movies that come out are "must see nows," while others I can wait to rent. I am not going to shell out the money to see every movie that comes out. At least not with the price of movies now a days.

My boyfriend is manager of an AMC theatre so we get to watch all the movies before they are released in the theatre to the public.

I have gotten so snobby now about watching movies with "regular" people...lol...I refuse to watch a movie in the theatre with the general crowd. If for some reason I can't make the early screening, I wait until it's on DVD. It's all his fault I am spoiled now!
