Preaching about Jesus is easy, and done often. People like to hear about how God loves them. What I never hear is sermons about stoning homosexuals and adulterers, people who fail to observe the Sabbath, etc. I don't hear sermons about divine judgment of sin. I only hear about forgiveness of sin, which was brought to us by Christ. We never hear about God commanding genocide against those who were not God's people. Creation is almost a taboo subject. All we ever hear about is love, as though the entirety of God's complex nature could be summed up on an index card.

Jesus summed it up in two commandments, to put the will of the Father before our own which is love all as self.

To love God more than anything, and to love others as we love ourselves: that's the summary of what he commands of us. It's not the summary of God's complex nature. The first commandment is to love God, but if a person doesn't care to know about God, then such person does not love God. Perhaps you know that God is love. That's good, but what else is he?

Are you saying it is more important to reverse engineer God and create theology than follow what he commands of us? If we love all as self we know God.

Which means we put His will before our own, as His will is about others where ours is usually focused on self.
