  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Is smoking weed a deal-breaker?

  • Yes, I would never date someone if they currently smoked weed.

  • Probably, but it depends on how often they smoke.

  • No, I might be bothered with it but I would still date them.

  • No, I don't care.

  • No, I smoke it myself!

What if... now just think about it for a second, okay... what if... the doctor prescribed marijuana because marijuana really is the best medicine for her?

Maybe it's not that he or she is deceptive and devious and criminal. Maybe he/she just wants to help his/her patient and this is the best way to do it.

Heroine is illegal, but morphine can be prescribed. Imagine if morphine were made illegal just because heroine use is a problem. Would a doctor be evil if she gave her patient morphine to numb extreme pain? Or would we understand that the doctor is just being compassionate and doing her job - that is, treating the patient?

I think it's a travesty that the medical uses of marijuana are not being explored and used. It's proven effective for many things. It's a God-given natural medicine and there's no logical reason, IMHO, to treat it like it's the devil's weed. Especially considering how fully we exploit the poppy plant (opiates) which is far more addictive and mind-altering than marijuana.
Pot is far from the best solution to insomnia. It's like medical marijuana advocates want to put forward marijuana as some cure-all when it's actually just a very strange drug. It causes dizziness and vertigo, and it can be unpleasant to try to sleep while high (from experience). Poppy plants have a lot of different alkaloids in them, not all of them helpful, but if pot is treated the same way as the opium poppy is, nobody would need to smoke anything. Why the big fuss about it in that case? If you remove the smoking element, it becomes just another chemical compound no more effective at what it purports to do than opiates (even if not nearly as powerful as opiates).

Take some ambien. End of story.

Heroin was originally created to get US soldiers off Morphine. There is perscribed stuff that is stronger than Heroin, Heroin is just the street form....

I don't know about sleep and stomach issues....

I have heard that there are some eye problems that marijuana is the best medicine for. However, the federal government has been hesitant to allow it for medical use despite that most perscribed medicine is worse. I include all anti-depresents, as well as all ritalin types, as well as all perscription pain killers in this.

I mean worse as in effects the body and mind more, and are more addicting. The whole thing about medical maurijana not being legal in some states is just rediculous.

Yeah, I am not sure why anyone would smoke marijuana. You can get the THC just fine in other forms (brownies, for example) and smoking is known to be harmful.

Pinky, Are you pondering what I'm pondering?
I think so, Brain, but can the Gummi Worms really live in peace with the Marshmallow Chicks?

MOD HAT ON

Hi everyone! This thread has been moved to Ethics & Morality. If one of your posts was removed, it is due to an extensive thread cleanup that we had to do before the move. I will leave a 24 hour redirect here so that everyone will know what happened. The E&M Forum Specific Guidelines are as follows:

This forum is for the purpose of discussing ethical and moral issues. It is open to both Christians and non-Christians for respectful and informed discussion. It is not an area to ridicule or belittle the beliefs and opinions of others, and members doing this risk being banned.

Threads which do not initiate a civil discussion will be removed, for example threads which are used to rant and rave at non-Christians, or threads meant to rant and rave at Christians or threads which are used to call out a specific group of people and expose them to ridicule will be removed.

This is a Christian site, and as such, we do not tolerate blasphemy or ridicule of Christianity, nor of any other belief system.

This forum is for addressing ideas, not people... whether they be fellow members or public figures, please refrain from personal comments.

It is not necessary to have 5 different threads all discussing the same subject, therefore before starting a new thread members are required to read through the topics list and make sure there is not an existing discussion on the go, if there is please add your comments to that thread, do not start a new one or it will be closed.

In short, post with peace and respect for other people even if you disagree with what they have to say or believe. We encourage and expect respectful and informed debate in this forum and discourage low content threads or topics that do nothing more than ridicule other groups of people.

The following guidelines may help if you are undecided about whether your post violates the rules:

Polemics and Flaming
This forum is for the purpose of debate and interchange of ideas about the Ethic and Moral issues.
To this end, all respectful debate is welcome. However, any denigration of the views, character or intelligence of another member will not be accepted under the site rules on flaming.
Referring to other posters or groups by derogatory or insulting name is also unacceptable. name calling is not permitted under any circumstance, if you can not express your point of view without calling your opponent a bigot, baby-killer, sodomite, pervert, homophobe, fundie, fundigelical, heathen, or any other similar term then you will find that this forum is not the place for you.''

Posts must address the topics of the thread, and add substantively to the discussion, rather than responding personally to posters.

Accusations of rules violations are prohibited. Use the Report feature to alert staff to rule violations.

Blasphemy
In the interests of informed debate, members will not speak in a disrespectful way of The Christian God, The Trinity, or The Holy Scriptures (The Bible) . A similar respect is expected towards the faith and sacred texts of other religions.
Expressing disbelief in God is acceptable, referring to Him as a 'fairy tale' or 'mythical being' is not.

Promotion
This is a Christian site. Explaining or contrasting the beliefs of another faith is fine, promoting these beliefs as right, good, or to be embraced is not. Please do not post or attach any posts, links, images or files that promote a religion, belief, faith or doctrine other than Christianity. This forum is not intended for the preaching or promotion of any beliefs contrary to Christianity but for asking serious questions discussing their implications.

Vulgarity
Any member unable to debate without resorting to scatological or sexually explicit posting will be at risk of being banned from the forum.

Discussions in Ethics and Morality may sometimes lead to discussion on sexuality and sexual practices, this is acceptable, what is not acceptable are any posts which are vulgar and/or sexually explicit. Such posts will be removed.

Hatred
Any posters, Christian or non-Christian, who resort to posting hatred of any individual or group will be at risk of being banned.

Any members that cannot abide by these Forum Specific Guidelines will be subject to staff actions up to and including permanent bans from the site.

Smoking pot is not an automatic dealbreaker for me.

Lying on my couch 24/7 stoned out of your mind, refusing to get a job in lieu of watching TV all day, eating me out of house and home and refusing to pay a dime towards any expenses because you're too interested in supporting your drug habit - that's a dealbreaker.

Holding down a steady job, providing economic support to the household, doing your fair share of chores, treating me well, and generally being decent, loving, hardworking, and responsible, while sometimes smoking recreationally or for medical purposes - I can go with that.

People can be jerks. I don't date jerks. Weed may or may not have anything to do with it.
