  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is smoking weed a deal-breaker?

  • Yes, I would never date someone if they currently smoked weed.

  • Probably, but it depends on how often they smoke.

  • No, I might be bothered with it but I would still date them.

  • No, I don't care.

  • No, I smoke it myself!

Most definitely a deal breaker for me. I have seen this stuff destroy families and lives. My step brother ended up in jail over this stuff where he contracted an infection that has almost killed him several times (meningitis.)

I've watched athletes, both ones I know personally and ones I have seen in the media spotlight, throw careers away because they could not give up marijuana. Ricky Williams cost himself somewhere between $50-100 MILLION dollars in salary and endorsements because he said he didn't want to give up weed.

Anyone who says the stuff is not dangerous and does not affect people is lying to themselves to justify using the stuff.

It'd be a dealbreaker as long as it remains illegal. Smoking pot can interfere with a job (random drug tests, etc) and land you in jail. I don't want to deal with that drama.

If it was legal, then I wouldn't care if it was only once in awhile. IMO, smoking pot is not any worse than drinking alcohol. I don't believe that based on studies, but on what I have observed as a result of cousins who smoke/smoked pot and other family members who have/do drink alcohol.

If you were interested in someone romantically and you found out they currently smoke weed, would it be a deal-breaker for having a relationship with them? Just curious. :holy: (the poll is private)

It would be hard for me to be with someone who smokes weed. Not because I think drug users are bad...quite the contrary. I have had quite a few friends who were illegal drug users and they are good people in my opinion.

Weed ruined my family, or at least my dad let it become such a problem that his problem with weed ruined the family, regardless weed was involved and I am just extremely anti-weed. Mix in when I did it back in college, I remember one day getting blitzed and the next day I woke up thinking everything is great, wonderful and good. That night, I debated about suicide. Now I can't rightfully blame weed initially, because at the time I was extremely stressed and maybe even depressed, yet the fact that I went at it in such a switch like that was the first time, so the connection with weed and that never leaves me. Then one of my ex's smoked weed, and when I found out she smoked it around her 2 year old daughter one day, I flipped my lid. It was one of the many reasons why we broke up.

So as biased as I am, it would be hard for me to imagine myself being with someone that smokes pot. It would take that girl to be really special for me to over look that. I won't go and say it isn't possible. Its just the only thing I have to answer is based on the past of my family and the past with women who have smoked weed and what it did to me, so I could only answer in probability. Maybe someday I'll be proven wrong. Who knows...anything is possible the way my love life goes :p :)

Incredibly hypocritical since I drink alcohol and don't think weed is any worse - but deal-breaker.

In my youth/young adulthood I had a major problem with narcotics abuse, that is, cocaine, speed, lsd and some heroin. After 7 years I was delivered from all of it and one of the things I had to do was drop all my drug using friends.

Weed isn't socially acceptable like alcohol is, and I think because of that (and the fact that it's illegal), tends to travel more frequently in circles where people take other, more dangerous narcotics. I know from experience that it's dangerous for me to even be around such people. So I absolutely steer clear.

Alright so here is where I seem very different from everyone else.

to me its not a deal breaker. It might bother me, but I am sure he would put up with things about me that bother him.

I do not smoke it, nor have i ever. Not saying i never would if the situation was right. But I am also open minded.

To each his own. I dont judge people by the things they decide to smoke or drink. I dont like to judge anyone for any reason.

Everyone has to live their life their own way.

And you never know, that pot smokin hippie just might be my perfect match.

You know in a way, you kind of explain why my disdain towards women that do it is going down. Sometimes I really do wonder if I need just some wild child hippie that can tolerate her metal head cigarette smoking whiskey and beer drinking man that if she smokes some weed, I may just have to learn to keep my mouth shut if she can tolerate my vices.

Plus, the more I think about it, the more I wonder if my biasedness is the only reason why I would say not to being with someone that does smoke weed. Regardless of the fact it is illegal, and has some negative health aspects to it, I just don't know if my biasedness is a good reason to turn someone down.

I mean my response shows dramatic change...especially anyone that really knows me. Because years ago, I was deadset against being with someone that smokes weed and quite blatant about it. Now? I just don't know anymore. :)

Deal-breaker. The only people I know that smoke weed I know over Xbox Live, and they're in Canada. One of my best friends apparently used to spread it on thick, but he stopped a few years back and hasn't touched it since.

Red Stilleto... and maybe a child abusing psychopath is your perfect match as well? There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to choose a mate based on their actions, both pro and con. No one is judging the persons heart. It is using sound judgment to choose the person that is right for you.
