You know what? Listen to music, concentrate on it so much that you don't notice anything else.

Concentrate on your breathing. Do the exercises with the breathing. That way you will forget about the effort.

Is that what you ment by motivation? Or were you looking for this thread:

I have actually been working out again and losing weight etc. and the one thing that has been motivating me is that people are noticing the difference. They keep telling me how great I look, what am I doing, etc. That is such an incentive. Also, I listen to music that really gets me goin' too. I guess for everyone it's different, but that's what works for me. I started off doing a little bit (exercising) each day and after seeing the results and other's noticing, it really got me to do more and more each day. Good luck to you!

I guess my blood pressure monitor. If I keep fit, it has good readings. I am very fortunate to enjoy working out. Maybe since it's been a habit for so long, motivation isn't an issue any more. If I let my eating slip and gain a few pounds, I get so disgusted that my motivation goes through the roof  The flab never has a chance!

Hey. I need to start working out again lol. Those of you who do, do you have any ideas on motivation? What motivates you to exercise & lift weights, etc.?

Hi! Motivation is THE issue, isn't it? ;)

I believe it is a personal issue, also, but the idea of folding fitness into your lifestyle and making it a habit are huge! For me, I had serious surgery and felt so liberated after recovery that I just kept at it. Also, I found that NOT being a perfectionist about it is important. Think of the big picture (so to speak) and one bad or missed workout is not so important. It's the long haul, and I think I need to make the most of what God has provided me.

PLEASE join us in God'sBods Exercise club (thread) in this forum. It's free, fun, and motivational! http://christianforums.com/t88382 :)

For me it was my weight. I had never worked out formally until a few years ago when I could no longer look at the scales without becoming physically sick! *S* Also, I knew professionally how much that excess weight and general poor condition was harming me. I tried exercising at home, but that did not work out real well for me. I decided that if I put out my hard earned money, I was more likely to try and get the most for my money. I went to the local work out joint and paid for one month. I started working out aerobically for 20 minutes three times weekly. It didn't take long before I noticed that I felt SO much better on the days that I exercised than on the days that I didn't that it was a no brainer to increase the frequency to daily. *S* I think it was about 2-3 months into working out aerobically, that I added strength moves. I now alternate between working out aerobially and doing more strength moves every other day.

My biggest problem is my size -- and time. I always seem so busy, here at school lol. And my size is kinda the opposite of the stereotypical problem. I'm actually trying to GAIN weight. Last I checked I think I was around 110. The less I work out, the more I seem to lose, though. The more I eat, it has no effect whatsoever. And when I do workout, I fluctuate between gaining and losing. lol.

I work out to stop my health from screwing me up. I build muscle exceedingly slowly, which sucks by the way. But slowly im building up my weight and strength. My sole motivation for it is that the stronger I am the easier my life will be. As it is, I need all the strength I can get just to make it through any given day, so yeah thats really my main motivation.

I think the greatest motivation is seeing improvements. If you want to gain weight, then look for certain exercises that build (ie higher weight and feer reps). Also, the hardest part about actually working out is starting. So if you force yourself to start to exercise, then the rest is easy. It works for me at least . . . for running.

I'm actually trying to GAIN weight
I used to have that problem too.
Do you have a weight lifting club you can go to, and force yourself to keep going there at regular hours? That's what keeps me going to ballet when I'd rather sit and read... I paid for it, and I'm not going to break the habit if I can help it. It's amasing how much nicer life is when you are strong and in good shape.

Well, me and a couple of friends worked out yesterday. Sadly, for some reason after about 10-15 minutes I had to quit b/c I got dizzy, and a bunch of other junk that made me almost pass out. I don't think I overdid it, so I dunno :(

I have seen much improvement with my energy level, health and tone but motivating ones self to the gym still can be problematic at times. I will take a Cordeceps pill or a siberian ginseng capsule about 20 minutes before workout time and it gives me enough boost to get off my @$$.
it may be purely psychological, but it works for me.

What motivates me is that I like the way that I look, and I want things to stay looking that way! Sometimes it's hard to get motivated. Because of my work schedule, I exercise at 5:30 in the morning. It's hard to do, but I'm pretty good at keeping to a schedule, although not as good as I'd like to be.

If you have friends that are interested - get them involved! My best workouts are the ones I do with my husband - bike riding, weights, etc. By keeping up with him and not taking breaks (since he doesn't) I have a better workout.

Good luck! :)

What a blessing!! That's a dream of mine is to workout with my spouse (I did a post about that in fact :) ). We lifted weights together when we were dating about 18 years ago. I miss it!
