  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Share anything from this Mother's Day. Thoughts, memories, gifts, observations, things that touched your heart, etc.

My poor hubby was up most of the night on Saturday with a toothache, so he took advantage of it and went out at 4:30am to buy me a beautiful card, some flowers, and some Magnum Infinity ice cream bars (HEAVENLY). He even woke my son up so they could sign their cards and have them ready for me when I got up :) My son wrote something like "I couldn't imagine anyone else for my mom, you're more than qualified for the job" LOL. It was just too sweet!

My son asked me what I want for Mother's Day. I told him that I wanted time with him outside the home, so on his next payday, he is taking me to play mini-golf. I'm so excited about it! Yesterday we got the house really clean, tidied up the patio, and prepared ourselves for my dad's arrival - he's coming today. I only see him for a few hours every year, so I'm looking forward to his visit.

I sent the boys (including DH) out at 8:00 pm Saturday night to buy cards and flowers (I requested something other than roses). So MIL and I got cards and flowers. This year, the boys actually picked them out themselves.

After church, we and the ILs went to lunch, then to a birthday party for a cousin. I would have preferred a nap, but the boys had a great time swimming in the pool, so it was better than expected. For had we stayed home so that I could have my nap, they would have fought with each other. Loudly. Thus destroying my nap. So it's all good.

We spent Mother's Day at my MIL/FIL's house. It was really nice, even though we didn't all eat at the same time because some of my kids had other things that they had to do before they got there. It would have been nice to eat together at the same time, but I recognize that they're not little kids anymore, although I recognize that better than my husband, who was quite perturbed when they didn't all turn up when he wanted them to. :) I didn't mind. We ended up sitting at the table discussing with my dh's parents how their lives changed when their kids grew up/left home, and realizing that, one day, the chances are that our kids won't even be here in the same city for Mother's/Father's Day, but will be with their own spouses and kids! That day is in the mail, that's for sure. I'm not quite sure how I feel about that right now! :/

My mother loves pictures of Light Houses and oceans. I got her a picture of
a light House overlooking the ocean and a beautifull Sunset and made her my own Mother's Day card (see below)

To My Mother

on Mother’s Day

May 11, 2014

My gift for you this Mother’s Day is a picture of the
light-house, ocean, and sunset

Like the rock that the light house sits on you have been a solid rock in my life

Like the light house you have been a beacon to follow

Like the ocean you have been so consistent that has added so much to my security

Like the sunset you have demonstrated God’s majesty by living your whole life with integrity

Your LOYALITY to me is matched my none

LOVE Stanley

I couldn't do more for my mom this mother's day than send her a card. I won't go into detail, but my work can be very demanding at times and just finding time to get the card was difficult....

My mom is manic-depressive. She's battled this affliction for longer than I've been alive. I can remember being very young when she was so depressed that she would do nothing but lay on her side on the couch. As scary as the depression can be, the mania is far worse. I can remember those when she posed a danger to herself and others (myself included). She's not a woman of any great intelligence or skill...she worked as a nurse when she was younger...but her mental condition eventually made that all but impossible.

Whatever my mom lacked in grace, talent, intelligence, and stability...she made up for in love. Love for me and my sister was never in short supply. She always showed interest in us, always showed concern for us, always gave us affection. The phrase "I just don't have time for you" is completely unknown to her. She always let me know how proud she was of me...always was the first to forgive my failings. She always cheered me on and supported me in whatever endeavors I undertook. Perhaps most importantly, she treats my wife with the love and respect she gives to me. My wife (whose own parents only qualify as parents in the most technical sense) looks at my mom as more of a mother to her than her own mother ever was.

My mom's always had health issues, but she never let them stop her from being an amazing mother. I love her with all my heart and she'll always be the #2 woman in my life. I called her yesterday when I had about 15mins to spare and spent the time talking about all the times I remember her being such a wonderful mother to me. A lot of it she couldn't really remember and she was surprised to know I could. Lol it only took about 10 mins before she was in tears.

I love my mommy.

Ana, that was really lovely to read.

My family had plans for Mother's Day, but everyone ended up being sick, so "Mother's Eve" consisted of three sick kids in my bed with fevers and coughs all night, and then me making breakfast and taking care of them all day. Husband was sick too. But I absolutely loved it. :) There was so much bonding and being a mom to babies, which I know I'll miss. My husband was disappointed, but I told him we can have picnics and surprises any day. Sometimes it's okay to just be a mom. Plus I just love that babies think that being sick is somehow easier if you're lying on your mommy!

Friday was the Mother's Day game for my stepson's little league, so I went to that. There, the boys and their mom gave me their Mother's Day gift... An Alex and Ani bracelet in purple that's positively gorgeous.

Saturday, I went with my family to a Mexican place for dinner, greenhouse hopping, and an antique mall. That night, I celebrated Mother's Day with my husband (he worked the next day)... I got a pile of chocolate and a beautiful collage picture frame with pictures that have about 100 memories. It was gorgeous.

Sunday, I went with my family again to Ogunquit (in Maine, by the ocean) to celebrate. My mother gave me an Alex and Ani Celtic knot bracelet, my father gave me one that said "Mom," and my son got me his third gift (on behalf of my family) a gorgeous mixed potted plant. After getting Lyme, I'm too nervous to garden so I was glad for something that doesn't leave my patio looking like a dead, barren wasteland. We walked up and down the coast, had a shore dinner, and I got more gifts... A gorgeous shawl and a driftwood turtle.

All and all, it was an amazing weekend that I wished didn't end. LoL!

This year was a hard one for me. Mother is in the final stages of Alzheimer's, but I organized her room - and got her a nice house plant! I'll be honest all the Mother's day ads this year bothered me due to the circumstance, and just made me hate this disease even more...if that is possible.

The good news? lol you could tell the kids have jobs now! :cool:I woke up to a box of chocolate about 2 foot long, pair of pj's, and Walmart gift with a note attached "NOT to be SPENT on GROCERIES!" ^_^

Went to see MIL since she broke her foot, and couldn't go out. She requested Burger King to eat of all things! She handed me gift certificates to the local steakhouse, and told me NO cooking DINNER tonight! USE THEM!

So I did!
