  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Most memorable movie experience?

Doesn't have to be your favorite movie or anything but what is you're most memorable movie experience and why? Like when someone mentions that movie, or you hear the theme, or song or whatever, it brings back a lot of memories and a smile to your face. It just really stands out from the rest... for one reason or another.

I went to go see "American Psycho" in a really snooty Ivy Leauge college town opening weekend. I'm a huge fan of Christian Bale and I'd heard great things about the movie. Unbeknownst to me, Gloria Steinem had called for this massive boycott of the movie by women and as a response, this women's group at said Ivy Leauge college had all decided to attend the movie to document the "offenses against women" to give this huge college-wide women's rights rally speech about why the movie is just so awful and offensive. Looking back, it was odd that in a 100ish seat theater there were about 40 women there and it wasn't a big release movie that did big bucks, but I didn't put it all together until later.

Anywho, the naked chainsaw scene came, and when he dropped the chainsaw down the stairs and did that crazy laugh at the end... I just laughed out loud. Not like a little laugh, but a huge laugh. It was so disgustingly morbid and over-the-top, I thought it was hilarious. Well, 40 pairs of eyes from 40 liberal women's rights reps turned around and looked at me with this combination of disgust and horror and contempt, which just set me off more because they were taking it SO SERIOUSLY. The guy I went to go see it with was beside himself mortified and he shot me the dirtiest look in the world, and I was just laughing my butt off. Even now, I laugh just thinking about it.

It wasn't my most memorable experience, but it's one that makes me laugh.

I think my most memorable movie experience happened just this past summer. I went to a showing of the 1942 film Casablanca, at a small stage theater (built in 1935) called the Garden Theater. The theater was recently restored and opened back up to the public after being closed since 1963. It was built originally for movie screenings, but now it's used for more then just movies. Anyhow, I'm a lover of classic films and was so excited to go see this showing of Casablanca in such a wonderful, historic theater. I loved it. So far, this movie experience is definitely the most memorable for me.

I have two movie-going memories that I'll always remember.

1) Getting to see all Star Wars Episodes IV, V, VI in the theaters when they were re-released. Until then, I had just been watching them on an old, recorded from TV VHS. It was amazing, and a big party too, everyone dressed up, and having fun.

2) Watching The Matrix in the theater. It was the first time a movie blew my mind on a deeper level. (I went back 3 more times!)

I just realized I didn't post mine...

Mine has to be Jurassic Park. I didn't see this in theaters cause my parents wouldn't let me cause they heard it was too scary (which I still complain to my mom about in fun :))... however, I certainly remember being enamored with ANYTHING Jurassic Park. I wanted to see the movie soooo bad, I just loved dinosaurs. I remember seeing the first picture I saw of the T-Rex on the cover of some book or whatever and just thinking "WOW!! Look how real it looks!!" Looking at all the posters at the stand in the center of the grocery store. Hearing everyone talking about it. Seeing all the toys at Toys R Us... At school, getting excited every time the school band started playing the Jurassic Park Theme. The first day it came on video of course I FINALLY got to rent it (during the day mind you so we wouldn't get scared >.>). I even remember the day it came out on video cause I had it engrained in my brain (October 4th 1994 :D). The Jurassic Park insignia I found captivating and seeing it still brings back memories.

Not my favorite movie anymore but I still enjoy it although I think I could die without seeing it again as I had seen it soooo many times.

The premieres of ALL the Lord of the Rings. I just remember holding my breath for every start. In the 3rd movie the crowd I was with cheered when it was appropriate and I cried a whole lot at the end.

Then was the premiere of the 5th Harry Potter Movie. Some friends and I all got tickets. The crowd was so relaxed and fun loving. We all cheered and cried. It was awesome.

Then for the release of the 6th my little sister, boyfriend, brother, and I dressed up, and turned on battery operated candles in memorium for dumbledore.

Misery, because the girl sat next to me had an asthma attack and strangely only her boyfriend and I actually went to help her.

That and seeing the Star wars films the first time they were released in the cinema. I'm talking the original trilogy not the rubbish prequels!

I think it was during the Blair Witch Prioject that I jumped and my pop corn flew up in the air.
Another time a huge co-incidence took place unfortunately during a horror film. I was sitting home alone watching a werewolf movie and there was a chilling scene where a lady is in her house is unaware she's being watched. Suddenly the werewolf crashes through her window or door, I actually didn't see because at that instant a gust of wind blew my own door open and it made a loud crashing sound against the wall. I nearly had a heart attack!!!:D

Lord of The Rings,Return of the King because I went at midnight with 3 girl pals and we cried. I mean to this day we laugh about our wads of tissue and that song in the end by Annie Lennox. We sat there and cried and watched all those credits!!!

My most memorable movie going experience was when I watched A Bug's Life with my family when I was about 12 years old. It was the first time I had ever been to the movies. I was so excited to be out with my mom and sisters and get to eat popcorn and candy. I remember we all had a very good time that night; which was unusual for our family to do.
