What period of church history do you personally find most interesting to study? I know most of you are probably interested in a wide variety of periods, but if you had to pick just one to study (Ante-Nicene, Reformation, etc.) which would it be? Let's here it, what are CFers interested in?

May I pick two???????:D :D
One: Patristic period - about 100-451 or so. Lots happening, lots of early heresies, creting the language and ideas for the future.

Two: Early pre- and post-Reformation, say, about 1500 to about the Council of Trent in 1545. Again, alot of change, people prepared to do whatever it took for the faith.

One of the more interesting periods to me is the counter-reformation and the Council of Trent, but the ante-Nicene time is cool too.

Really, the last 100 years have been really fascinating to me too. A lot of things within Christianity changed really fast (not always for the better), but at the same time quite a few things have gone well or turned out better than expected. There's no time like the present...

I would have to agree with mister_p on the Patristics period, although it is a rather vague category (many historians use 600 A.D. as a cut-off).

If pressed, I would go with the pre-Chalcedonian period (100-451). Many of the seminal events that have lead to the current shape of Christianity took place during this period.

From the time of the second Jewish revolt to the Council of Nicea--fascinating

I would have to say the periods of the Reformation and Counter-Reformation. You have all of the great personalities like Martin Luther, Ignatius of Loyola, and Henry VIII to name a few. Their actions came to guide the actions of the European states for centuries and continue to affect us today.

The Age of Captivity and the state of those Christian communities living under Islamic rule is a deeply entrancing time period in the history of the eastern Church...

Wow! A four-year dead thread resurrected! Miracles do happen!!
