Funny, I just talked about this with my youth group last night.:) Mortification of the senses is basically about applying yourself to self-control of desires. Desires can obviously get out of control. If you indulge everyone of your desires everytime you have one eventually you need more and more to fill them. Mortification says I'm am not controlled by my body but I control my body in such a way that I can glorify God.

It's also a means of offering small sacrifices to God while applying yourself to these acts. Regular mortification of the senses results in both greater humility and a reduction of the sins that accompany unbridled passions of the senses. Done in the strength of the Holy Spirit, these acts are beautiful expressions of love for God.

Psalm40 posted a great list of mortifications in the chapel. http://www.christianforums.com/t2372036-practice-of-christian-mortification.html

Hope that helps a little.

next time you think about getting a new check out this book :) its got a great chapter on motrifcation :)

Forgive me for saying this, but I'm so sick of "step" books! They are incredibly annoying!! I think there is a "step" book for every health and faith issue in the world. (However, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt on this one.;) )
