Mortal Sin

There is no problem with not receiving communion and it's really no ones business why you do or don't. I haven't taken communion in 6 months but I still go to mass every week. When I'm home from college I go with my family. I either just go up and cross my hands (I did this at Christmas) or I just stay back if I'm in the back. You shouldn't feel embarrassed, it just shows you respect the Eucharist. There ae mutiple reasons you could not be going. People should assume nothing more than you forgot and had a hamburger on your way in to church.

Shelb, you beat me to it. I was just going to say that I have been a victim of my own sinful pride in the past and being in a state of mortal sin has kept me away from mass before because I didn't want anyone to see that I wasn't taking communion. This is definitely the wrong attitude to have. Firstly, when you see someone at mass who doesn't take communion, do you sit there and think? "Aha! I wonder what HE has done!" I know I dont, and I think that most people who attend mass probably don't even notice. We should be focused on Christ during communion, not those around us. Don't fall into that trap.

been there, done that too but i feel more like, 'if i can't receive, what's the pont in going?' and that's a real bad outlook.

Gary- are you sure that the priest wasn't saying that what you thought was a mortal sin was actually venial in nature and therefore already forgiven during the Penitential Rite at Mass?
