I wish Mormons could point to where the Lord's true rest is in mormonism. I have never come across it in any form. Mormons need to bring JS as "prophet", works done in the 'majority' of their own strength, marriage, having children, dead baptisms, priesthood, etc., all in order to become gods? All works. How very telling of their own worth--to themselves alone. All mormonism shouts to me is, "Look at ME, God! I'm worth something to You!" When Jesus says, "come to Me, you who have nothing to offer, and I will give you rest"?

*That is, IF they accept Jesus Christ as He IS, not as they or--anyone else--would like Him to be. There is a reason why Jesus warned that there IS a difference in Matthew 7:21-23:

Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, will go into the kingdom of heaven; but he who does the pleasure of My Father in heaven. A great number will say to Me on that day, Lord, Lord, were we not prophets in Your name, and did we not by Your name send out evil spirits, and by Your name do works of power? And then will I say to them, I never had knowledge of you: go from Me, you workers of evil.

Notice He mentions all "good works"! That is exactly the type of thing Jesus warned against thinking you have a right to bring to heaven. Fruit which "looks" good on the outside--to them, full of "ordinance requirements", but is rotted, barren of God's rest on the inside. Whom do you believe and is therefore truly your Savior, because you can only claim one? Jesus? Or JS and his laundry list of commands? Beware of works done in any part for your benefit. I take complete loving faith in Jesus Christ to heaven. All I need that is worth anything to Him.

They have heard all this before, time after time after time. It's nothing new to hard-core Mormons who remain entrenched in their 'glorious ordinances', resistant to being open to the Holy Spirit. They don't want to think beyond what they are taught. Too scary to face the possibility that Jesus Christ has complete charge over the one heaven, the throne room of God. JS's mormonism doesn't fit there, so they walk away.
I was reading about how many people like to be told what to believe because their is a comfort in that because everything has been determined, the rules are setup and their is a clear (per se) definition of right vs. wrong according to whatever religious standard it is. I found this shocking at first, but then many people are very lazy and want to be told what to do in many situations.

As far as God's rest, I know exactly what you mean but they probably don't think they need it (although they do) or do not understand it is available without the church giving it to them with a big bow on it. smh

So does Jesus give us the indwelling Holy Spirit and then take it away? Does it come back and forth or does it leave forever.
That would make no sense. The Holy Spirit IS the seal of God to the believer. Once sealed, it stands forever. God doesn't "unseal" anyone. (YOU try writing a name in a book with permanent ink, then erasing it without any evidence it was there to prove that wrong!) The Holy Spirit did not indwell the believer before Jesus died on the Cross. He was a visitor only to specific people. Jesus is the Savior. Jesus permanently seals the believer to heaven through the permanent indwelling Holy Spirit. What about that transition from temporary to permanent don't Mormons understand when it comes to their view of death? Everything hinges upon Jesus Christ.

So you're down to questioning my intelligence now since I don't agree with you?
No, I wouldn't be surprised if your I. Q. is higher than mine. I do believe that you're not omniscient though.

Why do you think keeping the commandments of God is such a burden?

Where did you read that? I certainly never said it. We don't deserve the new birth, but God in His mercy gave it to us, that He might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. I love His commandments! Mormon laws and ordinances, however, aren't His commandments.[/QUOTE]

Our Sunday School teacher was talking about obedience and he mentioned seeing a boat go by on the road and the name of the boat was 'my 10%'. It was someone's slap at paying tithing. He said and I agree 'I never felt that paying tithing was a burden'. Not to brag but we throw in extra to help support the missionaries in our ward, we feel the Lord has blessed us with this extra. I know there are many people in our ward who donate way more than their 10% and they are happy to do it. Going to the Temple is a blessing not a burden, we haven't been for awhile because of my husband's health and really I miss it.

Sorry to hear that about your husband. My wife does all our finances. If she died I would be in deep poo poo. I know that if I ever endorsed my checks I get from the farm they would throw me in jail for check fraud. She pays our tithing. I grew up in an inactive family that never paid tithing. When I was on my mission (I was a late bloomer and went when I was 22) I had still never paid tithing. I had been out for about 16 months and were teaching an older couple the gospel. They were really interested to the point we challenged them for baptism and they accepted. The only problem we had was tithing. So we brought a newly baptized member over to talk with them. I remember the first thing this new member said. Tithing is easy. It's the other commandments that are hard like loving your neighbor. We all laughed. Then the investigator asked if we paid tithing and did paying it bring the blessings it claimed. The new member said told of a couple of his experiences that he had had being a new member. My companion told of experiences he had had. When it came to me I had no experience with tithing. I could have made something up but I wasn't going to lie. I told them that I had never paid tithing. They didn't give me any time to explain before the husband got upset and told us to leave. This was a great burden I had on my shoulders and I vowed not to let that happen again. From that time forward I paid tithing on the money that I got from home. Missionaries are not required to pay tithing while on their missions. My mission president called up and ask why and I told him. Now even though we were farmers we were poor. I mean dirt poor. It use to be that every mission had a certain amount that they were to get from ether the missionaries own funds or their parents, relatives and friends would send that particular amount. Just after I had got out there they raised the amount it should be but I knew how hard it was for my family to send what they did send so I just couldn't ask for more. I was use to living on nothing so I was okay. Anyway when I started to pay tithing I really many times ran short. Short of rent money or food money. I didn't know how I was going to live sometimes. I prayed a lot on what to do and each time God came through for me. Sometimes I would get money from a relative or friend who I had never heard from. Sometimes I would find the right amount of money in my pants pocket. One time I needed twenty pounds to pay rent and did not have any. One day I opened up my Book of Mormon and there sat twenty pounds. I told my companion why he put that in my Book of Mormon. He said elder I promise you I didn't and did not know how it got there. He was a tightwad and so I believed him.
When I got married my wife took over the books. She is a tithe payer. We have never not paid our tithing. I worked full time on the farm and things did not change much as far as money. We were still dirt poor. My wage was three hundred a month. This was in the early eighties. But my wife never failed to pay tithing or fast offering. It was hard but we always had enough. When I took over the farm we had a big debt to the tune of $340000. Because of paying tithing I don't owe anybody today because we pay our tithing.

I said nothing about your intelligence. Were Adam and Eve unintelligent before eating the fruit?

I think we all have stories like this. As we were going to collage we were dirt poor too and it seemed like every time we came up against a hard place one of my grandmothers would send us a few dollars, enough to make that gas payment and stock the shelves. Today we are 6 months away from paying off our house and being totally out of debt as we have have been advised to do. I know it's because we have paid our tithing throughout our 43 years of marriage.

My hubby suffers from intense headaches and his medicine makes him sleepy thus I have time to write on this web site, he sleeps and I write. We are trying some new meds this week, hoping and praying it works because we would like to go on a mission.

23 Behold, now it is called today until the coming of the Son of Man, and verily it is a day of sacrifice, and a day for the tithing of my people; for .he that is tithed shall not be burned at his coming.

The Righteous to Dwell in Everlasting Burnings
These are the first principles of consolation. How consoling to the mourners when they are called to part with a husband, wife, father, mother, child, or dear relative, to know that, although the earthly tabernacle is laid down and dissolved, they shall rise again to dwell in everlasting burnings in immortal glory, not to sorrow, suffer, or die any more, but they shall be heirs of God and joint heirs with Jesus Christ. What is it? To inherit the same power, the same glory and the same exaltation, until you arrive at the station of a god, and ascend the throne of eternal power, the same as those who have gone before.

Joseph Smith, King Follett Sermon
