I was reading about how many people like to be told what to believe because their is a comfort in that because everything has been determined, the rules are setup and their is a clear (per se) definition of right vs. wrong according to whatever religious standard it is. I found this shocking at first, but then many people are very lazy and want to be told what to do in many situations.I wish Mormons could point to where the Lord's true rest is in mormonism. I have never come across it in any form. Mormons need to bring JS as "prophet", works done in the 'majority' of their own strength, marriage, having children, dead baptisms, priesthood, etc., all in order to become gods? All works. How very telling of their own worth--to themselves alone. All mormonism shouts to me is, "Look at ME, God! I'm worth something to You!" When Jesus says, "come to Me, you who have nothing to offer, and I will give you rest"?
*That is, IF they accept Jesus Christ as He IS, not as they or--anyone else--would like Him to be. There is a reason why Jesus warned that there IS a difference in Matthew 7:21-23:
Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, will go into the kingdom of heaven; but he who does the pleasure of My Father in heaven. A great number will say to Me on that day, Lord, Lord, were we not prophets in Your name, and did we not by Your name send out evil spirits, and by Your name do works of power? And then will I say to them, I never had knowledge of you: go from Me, you workers of evil.
Notice He mentions all "good works"! That is exactly the type of thing Jesus warned against thinking you have a right to bring to heaven. Fruit which "looks" good on the outside--to them, full of "ordinance requirements", but is rotted, barren of God's rest on the inside. Whom do you believe and is therefore truly your Savior, because you can only claim one? Jesus? Or JS and his laundry list of commands? Beware of works done in any part for your benefit. I take complete loving faith in Jesus Christ to heaven. All I need that is worth anything to Him.
They have heard all this before, time after time after time. It's nothing new to hard-core Mormons who remain entrenched in their 'glorious ordinances', resistant to being open to the Holy Spirit. They don't want to think beyond what they are taught. Too scary to face the possibility that Jesus Christ has complete charge over the one heaven, the throne room of God. JS's mormonism doesn't fit there, so they walk away.
As far as God's rest, I know exactly what you mean but they probably don't think they need it (although they do) or do not understand it is available without the church giving it to them with a big bow on it. smh
