I thought of sharing books and how they have inspired me in my life and spiritual walk. You also can share books and how they may have inspired you. They could be books that are theology based, thought provoking, a novel, a poem, or short stories. They can be Christian, Jewish, Messianic, or which ever. Please keep it clean though. It can also be a secular novel that has inspired you.

The one book that comes to mind is Heidi. When I first read this book in my younger days, I was going through a lot of abuse. In a way I felt like Heidi. Where she was orphaned and her aunts and uncles did not want her. So they sent her to her grandfather in the Swiss Alps.

Her grandfather did not want her either because he felt that she was a bother and he could not be bothered with her. However, Heidi went up into the mountains to tend to the sheep and goats that her grandfather had. She met a young boy who was also tending sheep and goats. They became friends and playmates.

Heidi would always try to talk to her grandfather about what she saw and how much she had fun. Her grandfather's heart was still harden toward her. But Heidi never gave up. She kept doing what she needed to do.

Until one day her grandfather started to change his heart toward her. And a relationship started to grow between them. Their love for each other became stronger, to where her grandfather appreciated her and vice versa.

This book inspired me to not give up and to always keep a heart of love even to those who may have a hardened heart.

Now it is your turn to share what book inspired you the most.

Christy by Catherine Marshall

I enjoyed reading this book. I loved how the author had used a lot of characters. The characters in the novel had their own personality, struggle and faith in God. I saw a few people that I knew as well as myself.

Also I was inspired in how the missionary had went to these deplorable places and yet accepted each one of them. Regardless if they were rough and tough people or just wanting a friend to be there for them.

i listened to the reading of "Hind's Feet On High Places." The main character "Much Afraid". lived in a brutish household with abusive relatives and they were going to completely control her life and force her to marry a most terrible man. She usually complied with everything they told her to do because she was terrified of them. Then one day she hears of and meets a shepherd. And He invites her to step out into the unknown and follow him. Somehow she trusted him and she got a sense of peace and belonging and safety in his presence. Lo and behold, the story changes dramatically from here as Much Afraid contemplates daring to trust this shepherd enough to climb to the high places with him, to a place where she was destined to abide in since before the foundation of the world.

This verse was possibly Much Afraid's theme as she dared to challenge what kept her in a prison of darkness and paralyzing fear.

"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." ~II Timothy 1:7

Just thought of this wonderful series of books I read. Named: The King's Apprentice. The books focus on that hero's do not necessarily need to be large and super powered. Hero's can as well be small and "of look" not needed. Great series that points out to youth that no matter how you are/look/talk or what you do/did/will do there's always a solution and some one who care's more :)

Brinny,

I loved reading "Hinds Feet on High Places". The author also has a sequel to that book called "Mountain of Spices", which is based along the lines of Song of Solomon. So much I can relate to some characters in the book and saw my own struggles. This also reminds me of "Pilgrims Progress" by John Bunyan.

Gus, the book that you mentioned sounds like a good read. Even the most smallest of people or the least of people can be a hero to someone. It doesn't have to be big. God uses the least or the most down and out to become great Leaders or simply to present God before the most prideful of people.

For man looks at the outward appearance, but God looks at the heart.

"But the Lord said to Samuel, "Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart." 1 Samuel 16:7

"Sons and Daughters" by Margaret Dickinson

A daughter tries to win her fathers heart however the father refuses to give in. He wanted a son however never had one. Her mother died at childbirth. Her father blamed her for her mother's death and for not providing for a son.

I was inspired by the novel because the daughter had tried everything to win her fathers heart. She never gave up.
