I got a question, and this isn't referring specifically to Don Fortner, but to all Preachers in general. Do you think after about a certain age a Pastor should hang up his preaching at the pulpit if it seems that senility has kicked in?

The Lord's Day is the day set aside by the local church for worship, the preaching of the word and the observance of the sacraments. When used in this manner Fortner would have to agree, and have heard him say so in a different manner. He has preached a few messages on the importance of gathering with believers when the local church calls you to worship because they have authority to call us to worship.

This differs from the English Puritan view of the Lord's Day sabbath. John Gill is excellent on this subject.

Yours in The Lord,

jm

Fortner speaks of it as one of the days during the week they gather for preaching, etc. Those folks get about 3 sermons a week, (if I heard him correctly).

Yes, if a Pastor is not able to handle the word correctly the Elders should step in and remove him. In conversation with a Pres of a theological seminary I learned that his predecessor told him to do just that...if he started to become senile, step in and have him removed.

twin could give a better answer but I bet Fortner would insist the church of God meet when the word is preached on Sunday morning.

Three a week is correct. The midweek service is not a "prayer meeting" but a regular service just like the ones Sunday morning and night. The men meet in his office before the evening services to read the Scriptures and pray.

And yes he looks at the Lord's day as another day for public worship. There are no "holy" days.
