• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I will check out that site for sure (i missed that it was a link before)

For me it is just hard to say to myself that the fear of sinning is no big deal. I have been striving to believe that its just the ocd causing all of this but its very hard because i just keep feeling like i am sinning when i breath out all the way. And i feel like i have to prep myself at times before i breath out convincing myself it just the ocd. when i feel like i have to prep myself if i breath out before i do prep myself i fear that i have sinned by breathing out all the way.

A lot of this stuff happens a lot. if i breath out all the way 5 times this stuff comes like 3 out of 5 times. Imagine how many times a person breaths out in a minute and then imagine that over half of those times you feel like your doing something wrong. And this is how it has been hour after hour for the last day and a half to 2 days.

I feel sad listening to this suffering that is caused by your thoughts. And I wish you could be free of the self-affliction.

The challenge is to believe that you are not sinning. Remember that the reason why you keep believing its a sin is because of your OCD...so in fact, the very motivation of your belief is based on disorder and anxiety.

It's always easier said than done. We can read all the advice in the world about OCD and it doesn't always help us. But keep working at it and give yourself a break..this is tough on you and make sure you get plenty of rest.

I was thinking about this as well and i was wondering, If i think that its a sin to breath out all the way and then i do it is it still a sin because i believe that it is or it not a sin because in reality its not? I believe that its not a sin because in reality it is not. Do you agree? But then my disorder starts working to make me think that im wrong.

How would it be a sin to breath out all the way? Does Scripture support this? Do you have any suspicion that this thinking is linked to OCD?

The way that it gets me is that i get it in my mind that im breathing out all the way with a wrong reason or motive and that that is how im sinning.

Right, I understand.

What would happen if you let these thoughts go and say, "its ok...just another one of those thoughts."

You may say that you are still sinning but challenge this by asking: where is the proof? Where does it say this in the Bible?

God knows everything about you. He knows you struggle with this. I am certain that all the thoughts attributed to OCD he understands and is compassionate toward. And He wants you to breathe out fully since that is what he did to make Adam! ;)

I am still getting hammered. Not only am i still gettin thoughts that im breathing out all the way with a wrong reason or motive but now im also getting it into my mind that when i talk with breathing out that im doing that with a wrong reason or motive. This has made saying things hard at times.

I have been told to ignore all of this and that its just my ocd, but each time i go to breath out all the way and a lot of the times when i go to talking while breathing out i feel like im sinning because of doing these things with a wrong reason or motive. This kicking my butt hard and i really need some help.

Don't ignore..accept...say to your thoughts, "its ok your here..."

When you say to yourself, "oh gosh...here are those thoughts again? What will I do?" you are only becoming more and more anxious.

But is not the goal to ignore the thoughts as well to be able to beat the thoughts.

were you able to read the website? It explains it very well.

Accept:

1 a : to receive willingly <accept a gift>

Pushing it away has made it stronger. Resisting it has made it stronger. Hating it has made it stronger.

While its normal and natural to do all of these things, it isn't helping. While its not easy to do the opposite of what you have been doing for so long, it's crucial to accept.

The best quote to summarize this is:

We cannot change anything until we accept it. Condemnation does not liberate, it oppresses.
~Carl Jung
