Yeah, that is pretty obnoxious. They must not be very popular around here, as I have yet to see one. I live in redneck country as well, so it's even more surprising because they would probably love a sticker like that. One of the more favored ones around here is "My kid beat up your honor student." Lovely, huh?^_^

Probably no room because of all the Dixie and NASCAR flags ;)

LOL. Yes, and don't forget the sticker that's a little siloette of a boy peeing on the Ford emblem (or Chevy). Those are famous around here.^_^

Has anyone read

Why the Rest Hates the West: Understanding the Roots of Global Rage ?

I heard the author speak on (IIRC) one of Dobson's talk shows and he seemed to have some very good points about the inner depravity of the Western mindset and our constant lust for self and the exaltation of ME to demigod (or greater) status and how this conflicts with much of the rest of the world. It was actually a very good talk, especially coming from an Evangelically oriented station (and one that often gives airtime to some real nutjobs).

Just a word concerning protestants....not all protestants are changing their positions on moral issues--not that you necessarily were saying that...nonetheless, my church that i currently attend (plus the official statement of the church and the beliefs of the vast majority of the people i know in this denomination) all pretty much have the same moral beliefs that I have seen in this forum. That actually is one of the things that attracts me to Orthodoxy....similarities in moral beliefs. I don't think I could consider certain other denominations that have very....liberal moral beliefs.

On the other hand, I have seen first hand what you're talking about. I'm constantly attacked at my "Christian" school with moral relativism and relativism in every sense of the word. It's extremely frustrating (often times i feel quite alone in my beliefs)

Duchess,

I'm not denying we are suppose to love everyone, I agree whole-heartly with that. But there is a difference between loving people and justifying anything they want to do to make themselves feel good.

Not to mention that many people nowadays have a very wrong idea about the concept of Christian love.

Christian love is not blind. Christian love doesn't condone "anything goes" moral behavior and doesn't (can't) accept any "relative truth" as the Truth. And because we love our brothers, we must admonish them and not turn a blind eye on them.

GDE -

"Absolutely. That is why we should not vote for politicians who promote moral decay (gay marriage and abortion) OR greed (neglecting the poor)."

I think we would then have a very hard time electing anyone! I think Jeff is right - moral & cultural relativism pervades our culture, which is directly opposed to the Gospel. But it is unwise and untrue to assume that such relativism and anti-Christian thinking cannot grow in Orthodoxy, particularly in the US. The large number of converts who have taken in relativism since their childhood will pose a significant threat to Orthodoxy in the years to come.
