  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

i have a question concerning monotheism.

what is true monotheism?

is it only a belief system based around that all should only worship one God and deny other gods (that doesn't seem monotheistic), or is it a belief system that believe there is only ONE God period?

The latter.

there seems to be a difference tho in what type of monotheistic view one could have. exclusive, to believe there should only be one God worshipped and the rest are at fault, and inclusive that God is one but can be called by different names.

Interestingly, those who believe the latter are often labeled panentheists.

That God is one.

That would be henotheistic (IIRC). My view is that other theists believe in and worship the same God as me they just have a different view about the nature of that God.

Worship only one God out of many is henotheism, which many conservatives do when confronted with other religions, especially Islam for some reason "Well, my god's better than yours!"

Belief that there is only one God, period, is monotheism. Which means that other deities that are worshipped are either figments of our imagination, demons, or either different understandings or misunderstandings of the one God. Monism would be the belief that other deities are different understandings of the same God, and that would qualify as a type of monotheism.

Panentheism is not the idea that there is only one God, panentheism is the belief that creation is contained within God, as a part of God, but is not God (creation being God would be pantheism).
