I would really sincerely suggest that you read this very long thread on TAW [ the Orthodox Board ] about buying Icons - Monastery Icons has been mentioned many times there. I would not buy anything from them.

They are truly crazy off the wall odd. At least the hermits down the road from me, totally different from these guys, are actually Christian, Catholic in fact, and do sell some icons too. But this particular group? Wow. Caveat emptor.

What's the best size?

As others have said, I would find another source. There are very many available. Buying through a (real) monastery will help support that community. And there are large icon producers as well that specialize just in icons. (There is also a purported school for boys/orphanage that sells stolen images that might come up in an easy search - I would avoid them as well.)

With that said, I personally like the size close to 8x10 for hanging on the wall, though one of my favorites of the Resurrection (also my namesake) I have in about 11x14. If you're going to be close to it 5x7ish is good. One of my favorite icons is actually in my car on the instrument panel and it's only about 1x2. It all depends on how you are using them. They are not really simply "works of art" but if one treats them as one might the Scriptures (assuming one wouldn't simply throw a worn Bible into the trash then dump garbage on top of it) that is sufficient.
